Back in August I was dining in a buffet restaurant in Pattaya namely I must say the truth being SIZLERS 

 

Now getting into the background of this I was dining with a farang expat friend , 

 

I must say before I go on I had a traumatic time here when we were the ONLY ones in here only to have a tattoed singlet wearing or should I say Thmank Top for our American friends as they don't know what a singlet is ?

 

This tattoed  farang and his .. I presume oh please no presumptions but I presume his Thai GF ....then sit NEXT table to us which effectively he was centre metres away !!! 

Practically shoulder to shoulder 

 

No idea why ,lonely ? Nosey ??..anyway may I get to to the topic please !

DOGGY BAGS !!

 

I was quite embarrassed when my farang expats friend couldn't eat his leftovers and asked for a doggy bag ....the tattooed singlet wearing farang next to us who chose this table when every other table was vacant ,was listening I could feel his eyes on me .

 

I was very embarrassed and I had another friend do it last week in Australia in a Turkish restaurant

 

I must ask in all my wisdom and please may I get a broad range of contribution from ALL aspects of Asia if this is common or even accepted?

It's certainly not as far as I know accepted in Japan 

Cambodia definitely not

One trick I saw a farang use at a buffet though is he brought his laptop. The guy was doing work on his laptop, so he could take his sweet time and extend the meal to stuff more food down his trap. Smart move.

Sai thoong (or glawng) glap baan is standard practice in Thailand.

 

Put in a bag/box to take home. Restaurant staff expect it and stock the styrofoam boxes and plastic bags with handle cut-outs to accommodate such requests. 

 

The sizzler "buffet" is only for salad and soup - I'm assuming the party in question requested the remainder of his actual food order to be bagged, and not 4 kilos of purloined salad.

Agree. He is telling a story about what he thinks happened in August (2025 I assume, although I could be wrong). Maybe he saves up stories so that when he cannot think of a new one, he falls back on past imaginary experiences.

Geez you just ask to take it home NORMALLY and they put it in a foam box.......
