It's better to have the tax separate to the plate then it's less likely to fall off

I guess you will need a police report first

They might say to get a police report, but I’d ask the retailer first as you normally return the bike to them to swap for reg plate.

Same as any other place in the world

To replace a lost license plate in Thailand, first,

file a police report for the missing plate and obtain a copy. Then, take this report, along with your vehicle registration book and ID, to the local Department of Land Transport (DLT) office to request a new plate. You will likely need to pay a fee and may receive the new plate immediately or within a few weeks

In that case have copies of the police report and what else with you. Some likelyhood to be stopped at checkpoints.

I have went all over the country with my new big bikes before license plates arrived and no problem. Didn’t get any dealer plates either.

I would bring copi of report, proof of residence/yellow book, passport, green book, and a translator to make things easier. Think that should be it.

For my new car I waited about 3 months (!) for the plates.

No red plate.

Drove about 560 km down south without plates.

Stopped by highway police on M7 just 20 km before Pattaya.

Showed them the available papers incl insurance and they let me go.

What in the world are you talking about?

@PoorSucker The easiest way is to let you dealer fix it. A couple of 100s more is all it takes. 🙂

I wouldn’t risk driving after dark because of potential insurance problems if something happened. They also say do not leave the province, but nobody cares really.

I lost my car license plate a couple of years ago when on a road trip, went to police station to file a report and drove home with the paperwork in case i was stopped ( i wasn’t ).

Went to my local DLT, waited 90 days and it cost 105 baht.

My bil lost his shortly after, he paid 850 baht to get a new one !!

Only difference being his car was financed.

Somebody making good money !!

As he said, if you are smart you do not put your tax proof on your license plate, you mount it somewhere else just in case you lose one or it gets stolen. Then its double trouble. Why on earth do you want your dealership to fix it ? Don’t you think they want to get paid for their trouble ? Experienced twice they <deleted> up my registration of my new bike, and back then had to get proof of address two times, so if you can do yourself, it is always better to make sure it is done properly.

Often the extra weight of the tax container causes the plate to bounce more and eventually falls off

Mounted my tax-sticker and parking permit above the air purifier.

Oh dear! Both of you. The point here was that it´s an idiotic advice. Why on earth should somebody put their tax sticker together with or hanging on the license plate? Idiotic idea! Ever heard of this little plastic film with glue, that sticks on any part of the motorbike?

Seems like both of you guys made that totally unique mistake! Good on you.....

Yeah, that sounds a bit more sensible. 🙂

You seem to have a lot of bad experiences in Thailand or just make them up to get in the recognized click on this forum. Let´s say like this, I have done it with no problem. Many of my friends, both Thais and foreigner have done it, with no problem. Then you ask if I don´t think they want to get paid for their work. Yes, I wrote that in the post you quoted. Are you drunk?

Anyway, you seem to be unique! A man with the heavy weight of bad experiences.

your eyed painted on or just being augumentative for the sake of it ?

They are both are saying is DO NOT PUT THE TAX LABEL IN A TUBE MOUNTED WITH THE NUMBERPLATE because if you lose the plate you lose the tax label.

I make a color copy of my tax discs  so if one gets lost then I just print out a color copy and stick it in the new tube  😱

I do the same... and when I lose a plate (numerous times on the front of my vehicles during rainy season and flooded roads) I call a Thai freind who gets me a fake plate for Bt.200.00.

With no government stamp in it.......?....😬

Well I can say I've never done that !!! 😋

OP, as stated, police report for DLT, they will order a new plate. Do not buy a copy/fake, they do have stringent rules on it, and penalties..........😬

Not worth the risk.......🤗
