Why does the video stop short on explaining how to disable for gmail?

Thanks, the new video extends to explaining how to disable it in Gmail.

In the meantime I already found out myself through Google, and that those "smart" functions are by default disabled in Gmail, or maybe I disabled them when setting up the account.

As for Facebook, in the video it is explained you need to make the changes through your Instagram account settings, but I don't have an Instagram account.

And the address mentioned in the video doesn't lead me anywhere.

Hmm. We’re having trouble finding that site.

We can’t connect to the server at privacycentre.instagram.com.

Would that be an issue?

I haven't looked at the video but I thought Google/Alphabet sifted through all gmail anyway - prior to AI?

“Nothing new is happening. Gmail and Meta have been scanning messages since the mid-2000s for spam, viruses and security — not for humans to read. Gmail even stopped scanning email content for ads back in 2017. The checks now are automated and only look for malware, scams and unsafe links.

Meta can use public posts for AI training, but not private messages — and WhatsApp/Messenger encrypted chats can’t be read by anyone. They don’t keep readable archives of your life for ‘AI to browse’. Regulators would crucify them if they tried.

Also, “AI” is mostly a buzzword. What we have today is advanced pattern-matching software — powerful, yes, but nowhere near a thinking machine. There is no all-seeing super-intelligence secretly understanding your messages. It’s just algorithms doing the same filtering they’ve done for years, now with a trendier label slapped on.

I’m not guessing here — I have a Master’s degree in Software Engineering from Oxford University, plus 35 years experience as a freelance software engineer.

People pushing these conspiracies usually have an O-level in woodwork from the University of Idiots.”

Almost true, it has arrived in the form of a film on the telly. 🤣

Sort of, look at my reply above.

When you send a mail with a certain topic, you will get FB ads on that topic.

A Gartner consultant warned me about GMAIL's lack of privacy more than 15 years ago.

So annoying those FB ads.

For some reason, I keep seeing ads for gimp suits and red rubber gloves......

Am I the only one who notices the ethnicity of the founders/controllers of most, if not all, of the internet spy companies?

Don't understand how any agencies could act to my disadvantage.

Or sell me stuff I don't want.

Which movie was that in?

Yesterday I saw a man leap 110 meters, he had taken a drug which enhanced all his powers, then I realised I watching a sci-fi film.

Don't you think it is funny that top universities and professors, Oxford, Cambridge, MIT etc have not come across all the stuff you are saying, you must have some sort of superpower which allows you to obtain all of this rare inside info, or is it just the fact you have come to believe the rubbish out there like a conspiracy sheeple (a word you used earlier) and do not know any better?

I ask again, what special qualifications or experience do you have to come to such conclusions over the rest of us who are qualified in this area?

It is a simple question which you do not seem to want to answer.

The Gospel according to Grok, praise be to Grok:

"No, the claim that Meta will read every message after December 16, 2025, is false; the update is about personalizing content and ads based on interactions with its AI chatbots, not reading private DMs. Your personal messages on end-to-end encrypted apps like WhatsApp remain private, and even with Meta AI, this change does not grant them the ability to read all user-to-user conversations. "

Finally another person to back up what I have been saying.

But no doubt we will be branded as sheeple, that seems to be the common way they deal with it, I find it funny. 😆

Its a bit like saying a bank who has been entrusted to look after our valuables in safety deposit boxes broadcast the contents to the world in secret, not a very good business model.

The conspiracy lot does not seem to realise there would be no company left if they broadcast the contents of all emails as people would have stopped using them years ago, not to mention the laws such companies would have broken.

So funny.

Just to bring back some perspective - I don't think anyone has said they are broadcasting the contents of all emails........

However next you will be telling us that Alphabet doesn't collect data (specific or aggregated) and sell it or some sort of access to data brokers.....

I have said in many replies on this subject here, they have no access to any contents of emails.

I don't know or care who Alphabet is, all my comments if you bother to read them are related to the fact that none of the email providing companies can or do read the content of our emails.

If individuals choose to use other means to spread their info that is up to them but has nothing to do with the email handling providers.

I am sorry then for you if you have so much "experience" but don't actually know who the parent company of Google is.........

I don't know what you had for breakfast but that also has nothing to do with banking app security safety.

I am a software bloke not a business administrator.

You do not know the slightest thing about how software security works but you still bleat on about it as though you do. 😆

You still have not answered why you think you are qualified to talk about such systems with authority, did a plumber or carpenter teach you all you know on the subject, I refer to those trades as you have done in the past.

I understand why this feels worrying, but the facts are straightforward.
Gmail has not been used for ad-based email scanning since 2017, and that policy has not returned.
Since 2018, strong privacy laws—like GDPR—set strict limits on what companies may do with personal data, and those rules still apply today.
AI does not override these laws, and it doesn’t give companies permission to read your messages for advertising.
Automatic checks in Gmail are only for safety features such as spam, malware, and phishing protection.
Nothing about the current AI tools changes your legal protections.

Do you think they can find out  if I met my wife in a bar ?
