Asking for a friend🤔🤔

Featured Replies

Over the past few days, I've read several posts on this wonderful forum, and many times, someone posts to ask something for a friend. When this happens, most of you are skeptical that the question is being asked for a friend: can I ask why? Couldn't that really be the case?

Are you asking for a friend?

Why doesn't their friend just join the form and ask for themselves?

Asking for a friend is an old joke

AI says

"Asking for a friend" is a humorous idiom used when someone wants to ask a potentially embarrassing or awkward question while pretending it's on behalf of someone else to avoid being the one to appear vulnerable. It's a way to save face, allowing the person to inquire about something they're personally interested in without directly admitting it.

It's a common joke: People say it to deflect embarrassment, making a lighthearted joke out of a potentially sensitive topic.

It implies a personal question: The joke is that the "friend" is almost always the person asking the question themselves.

It's a way to maintain privacy: It can be used to ask for advice or information about a topic without revealing one's personal involvement.

It's full of nice people who never offend or criticize when someone writes something they think is wrong. There are truly nice people on this wonderful forum... tell your friend to join.

Are you going to the AN forum Christmas Party, it's just around the corner, not long now.

You can meet all the nice people.
