Microsoft stopping MS Publisher soon? What alternative?

Featured Replies

My go to program for pretty much everything is MS Publisher, great for text as well as images. Now the swine say they are stopping it. In fact the message that popped up recently when I opened it suggests that they'll actually delete it from my pc but I cannot see that being true. Even so it is a bit worrying, for over 20 years I have been using Publisher in it's various incarnations and upgrades and of course I purchased the software so no poisoned dwarf in MAGA's LaLa Land is going to take it away from me. Nevertheless the loss of upgrades is going to tell eventually.

So - is there other software out there that will run .pub files properly and could take over from MS Pub if they kill it (silly sods!)

It's not quite as you suggest. Support ends in October 2026.

You'll be able to use Publisher for as long as you like, if you purchase it via some way other than a Microsoft 365 subscription. They suggest you'll have similar function from Word and Powerpoint beyond that, for 365 subscribers.

But if you have something like https://softwaresupply.net/product/microsoft-office-2021-professional-plus-for-windows/ then you can run it indefinitely, even without technical support.
