Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul on 8 December 2025 ruled out any negotiations with Cambodia over ongoing border clashes, stating that a halt to hostilities will only occur if Cambodia complies with Thailand’s conditions. Speaking at Government House at 14.20, he said Thai military operations cannot be disclosed but affirmed that Thailand is acting to defend its sovereignty. He criticised Cambodia for targeting civilians and dismissed any claims that Thailand initiated the conflict.

Anutin reiterated that the Thai military has clear operational guidelines and that all actions are being taken to protect national sovereignty, dignity, and public safety. He said the public should remain confident in Thailand’s military capability, adding that no neighbouring state should be attacking Thailand given the Thai armed forces’ strength. He also stressed that the government fully trusts the Thai military despite foreign reports suggesting Thailand fired first.

He confirmed there would be no negotiation channel going forward, saying Cambodia must follow Thailand’s requirements if fighting is to stop. The prime minister said recent Thai countermeasures were not symbolic warnings but significant responses meant to deter further violations. He emphasised that Cambodia had acted aggressively and that Thailand’s reply was intended to signal that further incursions will not be tolerated.

Regarding public safety in high-risk border areas, Anutin said he has ordered all provincial governors along the frontier to implement the highest protective measures. Budgets allocated for hazard zones must be used to safeguard residents thoroughly. He added that Thailand has presented evidence of Cambodian provocations to the international community, stressing that Thailand has never been the aggressor.

When asked about military strategy and the duration of defensive operations, Anutin declined to answer, stating such details must remain confidential and urging reporters not to ask questions that could compromise national security. He said political moves to censure or challenge the government were separate matters and insisted that his responsibility is to protect Thailand’s sovereignty. He rejected any link between the situation and a possible timeline for dissolving parliament.

Anutin said he has not spoken with US President Donald Trump or Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim, calling the conflict a matter strictly between Thailand and the opposing party. He expressed no concern about US tariff negotiations. Responding to Anwar’s social-media remark urging restraint from both sides, Anutin said such appeals should be directed at the party invading Thailand, not at Thailand itself.

Khoasod reported that the prime minister firmly rejected Cambodia’s claim that Thailand initiated the clash, asking whether critics preferred to believe the enemy over the Thai military. He walked away without answering when asked if the situation may become prolonged.

Key Takeaways

• PM Anutin ruled out negotiations with Cambodia, saying any ceasefire requires compliance with Thai conditions.

• He defended Thailand’s military actions, rejecting claims that Thailand initiated the conflict and insisting evidence supports Thailand’s position.

• Border-area protection has been heightened while military strategy remains confidential.

negotiations are always two sided.. Only under Thai terms will never work. We all know that Thailand wants control everything and everybody, but internationally this is not working.

Maybe a better step is that Thailand starts to recognize the borders with Cambodia, and than maybe can make terms

Almost 700 km from where we live?  Fight away as far as I'm concerned.  Good Buddhists should reflect that most humans are war loving, genocidal, murderous monkeys who want what they have and what others have as well.  Greed and pride causes most of the strife. Two predominately Buddhist nations whose citizenship and leadership is allowing their collective murderous monkey-minds to rise to the surface and rule the day. The Seven Deadly Sins of pride, greed, lust, envy, gluttony, wrath, and sloth, really all can be wrapped up into just two: Greed and pride.  So for greed and pride these two countries send their boys into the meat-grinder of mutual animosity, and those boys tagged as cannon-fodder probably would just rather be with a nice gal doing something more fun that fighting for the greed and pride of people who don't give a hoot about them personally.  Those who will never pick up a rifle and go to the front all yelling and screaming the loudest in a very un-Buddhist blood-lust. Add Mrs. Connda to that list.  I try to ignore it.  "KWAI!!!," she yells at the TV. "Either Thaksin or the Cambodians," I muse.  Great way to start the day.  We don't share that karma.  Soooooo - 700 km as the Black-capped Kingfisher flies - enjoy your stupid war folks.

I too was quite surprised at the instant animosity to the Cambodians,

My wife  got very angry at me for laughing at the obvious propaganda on Thai TV..she had to later admit she was played

when  the leaked  diplomacy  phone call was revealed for what it was.

Two weeks before Xmas and the New Year starts, going to be good for the tourists trade.

My wife is watching the TV all the time, she is blaming the Cambodians, well she would wouldn't she, not seeing the propaganda like a lot of Thai's are.

Waiting for the PM to visit the sick in hospital and giving them a stack of Brands essences, always a good PR job.

Yeah, It´s good to have him there now. He need to have something to show for, if he want´s the PM position after election. Starting to like this guy. Go get them, Anutin!

One side is planting land mines in disputed areas and launching munitions into civilian locations. The other side is responding by targeted bombing of military installations.

It's hard to understand why some people are siding with Cambodia.

Nothing to laugh at. The soldiers being maimed for life are young kids ages 19-25. Surely, Thailand and Cambodia can do better than this.
