Affordability: How Trump Has Made It Worse

Western countries have the highest standard of living, but they always seem to need more and are never happy with their lot in life.

It's good electoral politics to convince people who have more than the rest of the world that they are living in poverty.

It matters when not just the poor but even middle income citizens suffer because of the policies that create it.

Stop re-electing those 535 corrupt idiots.  You get what you allow.  Require balance budget, no deficits, no foreign aid, no NGOs, no military overseas, no more defense contracts, as nobody wants to invade the USA, having 100 million gun toting hillbillies there.

WW III isn't going to happen.  Stop being brainwashed by MSM.  Stop taxing for climate change, as you can't change the climate, and it's not a problem anyway.

STOP BEING SHEEPLE

Liquidate, take your pillow case full of $$$, get you pension & Soc Sec, be a drain on society and retire in some 3rd world, non nanny, un PC country, where they 'live and let live'.  Find a partner 20+ yrs junior to you, and smile everyday.

You earned it, you paid your dues, enjoy it :cheesy:

Or ... live with your choices, join a forum, cry about how you've been oppressed (made the wrong choices) and blame everyone, everything else for your misery.

Choice was and is always yours.   Just don't look in the mirror for the truth.

What are you on about? In terms of income equality every developed nation is doing better than the United States. And Trump's tax cuts during his first term and now on the second, combined with the new tariffs are making it worse

So you are driven by envy of the rich, rather than a fair deal for the majority.

If I've got a nice enough home and plenty to eat, can't say I really think that much about the super rich.

Yep ... If life throws you curve balls, and you've tried to be a straight hitter all you life, no prob.   Adjust, adapt, make changes that make you happy.

Don't worry about what you don't have, as you may realize, you didn't need it to begin with.   Enjoy what you have, as having enough, or we bit more, is more than enough.

Being envious and crying in your beer isn't helping you enjoy life.  Good for our comic relief, so thanks for that.  @Alan Zweibel

Are you being purposely obtuse? The whole point is that the middle class in America is under economic siege.

Well, it worked for Trump in the last election.

This is what happens the Dems create another entitlement.  It’s another path to more debt that is passed on the next generation.   The Dems are irresponsible.

Unlike the responsible Republicans who promised that slashing taxes wouldn't matter because the cuts would spur so much economic activity that the cuts would pay for themselves.

Canada

My pal lives in Canada, too cold to go out most of the year, and the rest of the year he's too frightened of being mugged to go out.

Fentanyl zombies and stabby immigrants all over the cities.

It's bad in the US.  But not as bad I thought it could. be.  I checked what healh insurance for me (at 62) would be in CA without ACA subsidies.  The cheapest plan is $820 per month. I was epxecting over $1,000.  $820 I can live with.  The apartment that I used to live in was $1100 per month and now it's $1700.  So a $600 increase in 7 years. This pretty much reflects the cost to rent a 1 bedroom apartment in my old neighborhood.  I'm not even planning on buying a new car because they have became absolutely outrageous so I am looking at used cars only.  Everything else like food, beer and even gym memberships are what I expected.

Actually, the price of used cars has skyrocketed, too.

I know. Been checking on edmunds.com, autonation and even KBB.  A decent used car is pretty much around $10,000.  Most of the ones at $5,000 or less look like clunkers.  The cheapest new car in the US I could find was a  2024 Mitsubhish Mirage (you know the one with the 72 horsepower 3 cylinder engine) and it started at $18,000.

Canada is notorious for its high murder rate of 1.9 per 100,000. Which is slightly less than Thailand's, and about 1/3 the US rate.

Maybe Canada should also be noted for its deranged pensioners who are afraid to leave their home.

ICEs not EVs. 2nd hand ICEs have been rocketting after several loonytoons govt plan to ban the sale of new ICEs in the not too distant future which caused people to start hunting for old diesels. Very sensible too.

Used EVs are worth pennys on the $ as they have such a short lifespan.

Oh, it's the government's fault is it? Not the fact that the average new vehicle in American now goes for $50,000? And not the fact that it's going to go higher because of Trump's tariffs on, among other things, aluminum and steel?

And I've already countered your falsehood about the short lifespan of EVs. As I've noted, your imagination is a fruitful source of error. And immune to correction.

When you stop producing standard economic performance reports from all the various government agencies then the numbers Trump quotes mean absolutely zero and everyone is a winner!

Seems like most of the money ended up on the stock market. Those that didn't wet their panties and panic sell when the tariffs were announced and woke msm assured their fans the economy would go down the drain are now sitting on a huge rise in value. Nice, and thanks for making us rich mr Trump.

Of course those who panicked and sold will be bitter.

88% of stocks are owned by the wealthiest top 10%.

These are already the people that Trump's economic policies benefit the most.

I'm in the top 15%, not bad.

The Dems are 100% irresponsible.   Social Security, Medicare, and Medicaid added $750 billion to the deficit in 2023.  Currently, 4/7 of the federal budget is spent on social programs.  What is their solution to this issue?  Adding more social programs.   This is why spending is at an unsustainable 23% of the GDP.

In the final two years of Bill Clinton's budgets, there was actually a small surplus. George Bush came in, gave massive tax cuts to the rich, claimed they would pay for themselves, and instead resulted in huge deficits. At the end of Bush's term, came the worst recession for the United States since the Great depression. That's what Barack Obama inherited.

Not exactly a ringing defense of the current situation even if your claim was confirmable.
