In Phuket today, three foreign motorcyclists fled after crashing into a Thai woman’s motorcycle at a red light. The incident occurred at an intersection near Go Benz Rice Porridge Phuket, where Patiphat Road meets Vichitsongkram Road. The accident left the Thai woman and one foreign rider injured, though the precise details of their conditions remain undisclosed. The three other foreign riders allegedly abandoned their injured companion and left the scene.

The crash has prompted strong reactions locally, highlighting ongoing frustrations with reckless behavior by foreign motorists in Phuket. Social media users expressed concerns about frequent red-light violations and criticized insufficient traffic law enforcement. Comments have pointed fingers at motorcycle rental shops for renting vehicles without ensuring renters’ driving capabilities, suggesting a systemic issue with accountability.

Past incidents underscore a pattern of recklessness and inadequate regulation. On December 12, another accident occurred when a foreign tourist died after losing control of a motorcycle during a rented sightseeing trip in Phang Nga. In a separate case last November, three foreign riders were fined for running a red light in Phuket, with the vehicle rental owner also penalized.

Looking forward, authorities in Phuket may face increased pressure to enhance traffic law enforcement and scrutinize vehicle rental policies. Efforts may focus on implementing stricter penalties for violations and ensuring rental shops conduct more rigorous vetting of renters. The incident emphasizes the need for collaboration between local authorities and rental businesses to improve road safety and uphold traffic laws.

Key Takeaways

  • Three foreign motorcyclists fled a crash scene in Phuket, leaving their injured companion.
  • The incident has sparked criticism of rental shops and traffic law enforcement.
  • Authorities may need to implement stricter regulations and oversight in response.

Is that difficult to hold rental shops liable for renting to persons without motorcycle licenses? Of course 80% of the bikes would remain in the shop in that case. 💰💸

Find and charge the three foreign riders who fled the scene, instead of helping the victim and their injured friend. Based on the skin color of the guy laying on the road, my guess is that they most likely are from middle east or India.

Just yesterday I found out, that we now need to show a valid drivers license, before we can buy a motorbike in Thailand, so why not enforce the same rule for rental shops? It would be easy money for the bib to apply penalties to all the renters, who doesn't follow the rules!

Was this article to knock the foreigner again?

Thai's are just as bad or worse at running red lights and driving/riding without licenses.
The police should have a crackdown on them. I know  "Thais have no money"

Of course Thais would never flee the scene.....:giggle:

Already! Almost everyday on the moat road near Top North hotel in CM. Well on the few occasions I've been there.

The thread is NOT about Thai folk, this is a hit and RUN by foreigners...........🙄

Driving away after creating a accident is stupid and should be severly punished, but there should also be much more control and punishment on ignoring and violating traffic rules. This article should also be about how many people (Thai and not Thai) ignore traffic lights and traffic regulations making crossroads very dangerous.  Thailand is lacking counter measures to control these traffic violations  and because of that many don't care about them and act upon as if they do not exist.
