Keir Starmer, you’re still the best man for the job

In two important policy areas, Starmer has been in the right. He has restrained public borrowing, which should give him room for manoeuvre down the line. According to the IMF, next year the UK will be the second strongest growing economy in the G7 after the US, and that is worth a real boast.

The prime minister has also started down the vital route to reversing the Brexit disaster, most recently in reopening the Erasmus student exchange. That is also good news.

If backbenchers are restive, Starmer has enough of them to get by. He performs confidently with Badenoch in the weekly pantomime at the dispatch box.

The idea that Angela Rayner or Wes Streeting or even Andy Burnham is massing armies of eager supporters at Starmer’s door is ridiculous. There is no obvious leader of the party yet identified as superior to Starmer.

The next election is utterly impossible to call. The polls are useless predictors, as will be next May’s local elections. They will be a sign of passing whim, not of who the voter most wants as prime minister. Starmer may not be exciting, but that is hardly new in Downing Street. He has time – and in politics, time is power. He should take a leaf out of Thatcher’s book. Just stay there. Just survive. I predict he will.

Merry Christmas, Keir Starmer: despite everything, you’re still the best man for the job

The British electorate are well aware of the Damage this incompetent idiot has inflicted on the British Economy, Security and  immigration policies .

He came to power with the support of only 25% of the British electorate, now that figure is at about 5%

He came to power with 33.7% of the vote, the current YouGuv poll gives him 19%.

Still, plenty of time to bounce back.

Imo, the current Home Secretary, Shabana Mahmood might eventually challenge him.

She's sharp and being on the right regarding immigration, could take the wind out of Reform's sails

Shabana Mahmood is a non White female .

I doubt that Labour supporters would elect anything other than a White Male for leadership .

Females and minorities should only be there for show like Kamala Harris was

I'm sure Starmer the most hated prime minister ever  appreciates  the single vote from you

I think he's a good honest man - and that's a relief compared to the corrupt idiots we had for years.

However, he's been useless if i am honest. I would have expected more. Chief issue is the chancellor. She promised to be on the side of business to raise the economy again, but all she did was hit business with horrific taxes.

There have been no attempts at realligning back with the EU. Nothing at all, so terrified he is of Reform.

There have been no attempts at putting an end to the hostile racism over immigration in the UK. He never sets the agenda, he just parrots to Reform. You can never appease Farage .... once you deal with the boats, he will move onto normal immigration, then when you target that, he will target those who have been settled here with valid visa, then just move onto the next target. Starmer should be setting the agenda.

Ironically the green party leader has done more to shut down Farage and co than what the prime minister of this country has done.

oH GIVE it over. Free clothes and specs, is nothing compared to the PPE contracts that were being handed out by the conservative government. And all the dodgy stuff that was going on there.

Not easy. Some companies took massive loans, funding and then wound up their companies when they had to pay back. Morally it was theft, but legally nothing wrong was done.

The Conservative government went into a blind panic with all that money they dished out - wreckless.

More damage caused b y Brexit. Get back in the EU, UK.

The World Travel and Tourism Council (WTTC) has announced it will move its HQ from London to Madrid because of Brexit.

The organisation represents the global private sector in the travel industry, from hotel groups and Airbnb to travel tech companies and international tour operators. It has been based in the UK since its foundation in 1990. But in October the chair, Manfredi Lefebvre, said the WTTC would relocate to mainland Europe to benefit from “lower operational costs and EU single market access.”

While moves to France, Italy and Switzerland – as well as Dubai – were considered, the 17-member operating committee unanimously approved Madrid as its new location.

Gloria Guevara, the organisation’s interim president and chief executive, said: “Spain has prioritised travel and tourism and clearly understands the enormous contribution the sector makes to global growth.

In a statement about leaving London, the organisation said: “Challenges linked to Brexit, such as constraints on talent mobility, made the UK less attractive as WTTC wishes to further build its leadership position and become even more agile in the sector.”
