Chiang Meh is the most over-rated?

  • Well done putting Chiang Mai on top, definitely the best one.

He lives in Pattaya :cheesy:

What is a city to you Harris? For me Chiang Khan is a small provincial town way out of the way in upper Loei right on the Mekhong. It has been discovered by the travelling Thai's and become hot. We were there two years ago right around New Years. Crowded but not crazy at all. Fun times riding bikes along the river, finding a cooler place to stay just up the road.  Went out to the skywalk on a nice cool day and had fun.

It is filthy! THe pollution in the city center is horrendous all year.  I lived there 20 years ago and it was even worse but it is still a dump.  When the burning season starts it is literally hell and this can last 4 months.  What about the wonderful traffic.  It can take an hour to get into the city from the ring road(1.5 k). The rats love the place and I have never seen bigger rats anywhere.  Rats love filth...

You're right.  Bad memories but I need to let it go 🙂  It has such promise and it frustrates me that I can't live there or even deal with it for a month or two.

This year, had some very nice stays at Krung Thep: Sathorn, Khlong Son

No particular order, though, as always, visiting our daughter & partner, along with brother & wife, at Krung Thep was special.

Other memorable towns, areas, this year:

Suan Phueng (Ratchaburi)

Ban Luang & Mae Chaem (Chiang Mai)

Mae Tho (Tak)

Khlong Sok (Phang Nga)

Sichon (Nakhon Si Thammarat)

Why are they memorable? What's special?.

If I'm honest, apart from the bigger cities, every other place is much the same. Same as everywhere in the world.

However the people make the experience, not the bricks and mortar. But you have to meet the people and can't do that on a fly through visit.

1. BKK

2. Chiang Mai

3. Pattaya

4. Pai

5. Samui City or how you call it 😄

These are most memorables IMO, however my "top 5 overall" looks different and #1 changes time to time now... as my location 😀

Says who and by what criteria?  I think ao nang is beautiful with the jungle,  limestone cliff and sea all in the same field of view.

4. Pai

One of the most overrated imo, nightmare to reach, lack of quality hotels and full of undesirable wannabe hippy's.

CM. - on fire half the year hellhole, over touristed too many crazies en route to Pai, another hellscape

CK. - not been yet

Udon. - decent enough but no river

BKK.- it's okay but ppl getting ruder

HH.- decent but better farther south where kite surfing.

What about Prachuap KK, Hat Yai and Trang, and Chiang Rai.

All those are better.

Nice place for a couple of days, far from a city tho.

The road from CK to NK on a bike road trip is very nice.

Prachuap KK sucks, boring, very few restaurants have AC.  Main town is less than 1/2 sq km, no nightlife, no bargirls, just aggressive monkeys.   Surf smell like  a sewer.

Rai is ok but a bit boring. Hat Yai is just food. Trang is islands.

Ao Nang was great 20 years ago. Ruined by tourists now.

It's OK, though last 2 times in the surf, I got an ear infection, so I do wonder about the fecal count, as there are no sewer treatment plants nearby, and all sewer / storm drains end up in the surf, along Ao Prachuap.

They are right next to each other.   I don't bother going in any more, save that for Ban Krut or hotel pool.

Why is Phitsanulok not in your list?   555

Best beach on the Gulf ... IMHO

We pop down there quite often.  Less than 1 hr away.   Used to go to Thung Wua Laen, 2nd best, in Chumphon province,  quite often also, days past, but gets a bit crowded sometimes.
