New book bank.

Featured Replies

Have any of you requested a new book bank this year? Did they also ask to see the type of visa? I'm asking because the person who asked me currently has a DTV and is worried it might cause problems. I haven't requested one yet, so I wouldn't know what to say. The bank is TTB. Thank you.

I'm pretty sure they will want to see a passport  for a new bank book  and so they could clearly see what type of visa...but don't see why the type of visa would be a 'problem'

Is that the same thing as a bank book?

Just photocopy and show both books.

Yes, they can run concurrently.

The account will still work fine after the bank book's pages are full, new book, or no new book.

Perhaps tell your friend not to worry about the bank book, and should they need to check on transactions, they can do it online.

Bank books are a relic of the past.

Thai bank books cannot run concurrent, he may have to photocopy both books.

He doesn't want to download the bank app. His main concern is going to the bank for his type of visa. He needs to find a transactions between 17 December and 23 December that he doesn't do (at least this is what he said).

He has a DTV and, in the past, there was a crackdown on this type of visa.

Your passport and bank book can run concurrently.  Right?

If he doesn't show his passport how can he proof he is the owner of the account?

They might be, but IO wants to see them. I had to change Bank Books for my Fixed Deposit this year because the old one was full up (and YES passport was necessary) and when I did my Yearly Extension at Immigration last week, they wanted to see the NEW Bank Book and the OLD one, even though I provided them with the Bank letter confirming the balance.

He doesn't have to.  He can view his account through a browser.

There's no need to go into the bank.

Eventually, when his ATM card nears expiry, he will have no choice but to go into a branch, but until then, his account will work fine.

He can view it in online banking.

Don't confuse online banking with a banking app.  The same information is there, just the access to it is slightly different.

I'll take your word for it.

I use an agent.  Your post just confirms the reason/s why I do.  I don't have to deal with any of that rubbish.

He said to me that TTB no has online banking.

Your passport and bank book can run concurrently.  Right?

Yes I have a concurrent Australian passport.

It has a different passport number to my original passport, expires different dates etc.

Bank books ALWAYS have the same account number.

What's happened to you recently, it seems that some members here have changed you.

Try to get back to how you were, don't let the haters bring you down.

Looking forward to your better attitude in the future.

In that case, I suggest he installs the app, views the transactions, then uninstalls the app.

No agents that I know off in my part of the country and not bad experience.

10:30am at the Bank first inline to get the letter, then reaching the IO at around 11:40am (problem at the bank, some PC was down) and was out of the IO with my new Extension at 12:30pm. For the total costs of 2100 THB, *200 THB for the Bank letters, (i also got the 6 month statement just in case which wasn't needed) and 1900 THB for the Extension*

They are both original passports.  It's just that you have an "interim" passport to cover you while you apply for another 10 year passport.

The Australian government states, I have an original passport and a concurrent passport.

Wishing you well, take care mate.🍺

Plenty of agents in Pattaya.  No need to go to the Immigration Office.

I don't wait in any queues.

Ahhhh, the old "my extension ONLY costs me 1900 baht" debate.

I've posted the long math in other threads, but here's the short math.

You're lucky if you are getting 1% per annum interest on your 800k in a Thai bank, for the purposes of your extension.

800k x 1% = 8000 baht a year.

I get 5% interest on the 800k back in Australia.  ( more in my managed fund, but I do have some cash at bank)

800k x 5% = 40000 baht a year.

Agents fees vary, so do the needs of expats, but even if we say 20k baht for a visa extension for someone without 800k baht in a Thai bank.

40k - 20k = 20000 baht.

Then minus the 8k baht one would have got moving the money to Thailand for visa extension purposes.

20k - 8k = 12000 baht.

I'm 12k baht better off, with no running around and queues, and my money is safe back in my home country, where I have rights.

You say your extension ONLY costs you 1900 baht, but noooooooo, it's costing you a lot more than that, and you have the run around.

The 800k in a Thai bank is nothing more than a perpetual donation to a Thai bank.  It has to stay there until you die.  My money is at call.  No seeding periods and all that BS.

Many expats view agents as unnecessary, and expensive.  I view moving 800k Thai baht into a Thai bank the same way.

Are you saying one is a fraudulent copy?  Oh dear.  Best not to post about that passport.

No.  The Australian government states:

"A concurrent passport is an additional passport. In certain cases, we may issue you an additional passport if you need to use 2 passports at once."

https://www.passports.gov.au/concurrent

It's an "additional" passport, and is only valid for 3 years, and costs the same as a 10 year passport.  See the link.

You are the one who said your employer takes care of it.

You really don't know what they have done, and what you have, do you?

You've been antagonizing me for days now.

Get some help, you need therapy.

Thanks for playing.

I don't think any bank other than Bangkok Bank would close an existing account because the account holder is currently on a DTV visa. They probably wouldn't open a new account, but I've never heard of them closing existing accounts for that reason (as said, with the notable exception of Bangkok Bank).

If they suspect it to be a mule account, any Thai bank can, and probably will, freeze or close the account.

I doubt that's the case here, but if the government makes policy and laws for it, then the banks have no choice but to comply.  Eg.  the banks are ordered to freeze and eventually close all accounts of foreigners who do not have a 1 year visa.
