Very big black rat like creature?

Featured Replies

10pm and the dogs went crazy, thought possible snake but it was a rat like creature that was very big and black yet looked like a rat but 3 plus times the size and was very heavy(few kg) when picked up with the snake catcher pole  after our bangkaew killed it.  Never seen anything like it in all the years I have lived here, have to wonder if this is the heavy footed thing that we hear every so often in our roof as the noise it makes is way too heavy for a normal rat, wife says they are called  a pig rat? but I have no idea,

Sounds to me like it could be a big black rat.

I agree with georgegeorgia on this one. Something as amazing does necessitate some pictures.

sorry no, had to remove it before the dogs tore it to pieces, stood around 15cm tall and main body was around 30cm plus a long tail, weight was very substantial. when I first saw it standing I did not think it was a rat due to the size but it did look like a rat when dead

Mongoose?

body wise maybe but the tail was long and skinny plus it didnt appear to defend itself at all just ran and tried to hide.

Caught a rat last night, and a tree shrew the day before ... rural living.  Took the shrew to the park.
