An ambulance transporting a deceased person narrowly avoided a fatal outcome after crashing into the rear of a six-wheel lorry at a junction in Phuket, leaving the driver trapped and two others injured. The collision occurred in the early hours of 26 December 2025 at the Thalang intersection on Thep Krasattri Road, disrupting traffic and prompting an emergency rescue operation. The ambulance driver suffered injuries and was trapped inside the vehicle, while passengers travelling with the body were also hurt.

Police said the incident happened at 04:15 when the private ambulance, registered in Bangkok, was travelling from a hospital in the capital to Phuket. The vehicle was carrying the body of a deceased person, accompanied by one relative and one ambulance staff member, for religious rites in Kathu district. As it reached the Thalang junction in Thep Krasattri subdistrict, it collided forcefully with the rear of a box-style six-wheel lorry from Surat Thani that was stopped while waiting to turn right at a traffic light.

Officers from Thalang Police Station, led by Pol Lt Col Niwat Thimket, were alerted to the crash and attended the scene with rescue workers from the Kusoldharm Phuket Foundation and an ambulance from Thalang Hospital. The front of the ambulance was heavily damaged, with the driver, identified as Nattaphon, trapped in the wreckage. Rescue teams used hydraulic cutting and spreading equipment for more than 30 minutes to free him before transferring him to Thalang Hospital for treatment.

Inside the ambulance, authorities confirmed the presence of the deceased body, along with the injured relative and the ambulance staff member. Both injured passengers had been taken to hospital before police completed their inspection of the scene. The body of the deceased was handed over to the relevant authorities for further procedures in line with legal and medical requirements.

Initial police investigations indicate that the ambulance had been travelling a long distance overnight from Bangkok to Phuket. Officers believe driver fatigue may have been a contributing factor, with the possibility that the driver briefly fell asleep at the wheel before the crash. However, police stressed that the exact cause of the collision remains under detailed investigation.

Daily News reported that investigators will continue to examine evidence from the scene, interview those involved, and review traffic conditions at the junction. Legal proceedings will follow once the investigation is complete, in accordance with standard procedures.

Once we brought a deceased person to a temple. The ambulance was driving like crazy using the lights and sirene. I was wondering why, because the woman inside was dead already. This is something similar... Why bring a dead body at 4am to temple. It can,'t be done later?
