Two men were arrested in Bangkok for allegedly impersonating undercover officers to kidnap a Chinese national, demanding a $63,300 ransom. The suspects, Watcharapon Pimpila, 24, and Japhing Sae-Liu, 23, were caught at a mansion in the Pracha Rat Bamphen area. Authorities confiscated tactical gear, including a BB handgun and other items used in the alleged crime.

The case began when the suspects pretended to be Central Investigation Bureau officers, abducting 25-year-old Mr. Chenglong from his home in Samut Prakan province. Claiming it was an anti-scam operation, they intimidated the victim with a fake firearm. Chenglong was forced to contact his brother to secure a $63,300 ransom, of which $12,400 was initially transferred before the brother sought help from a Thai associate.

The police tracked Chenglong using CCTV, leading them to a mansion in Bangkok’s Huai Khwang district. Officers found him held captive with Japhing Sae-Liu, who allegedly confessed and implicated Watcharapon Pimpila. Both suspects admitted their involvement and were subsequently charged with several offenses, including kidnapping for ransom and impersonating a government official.

As the investigation continues at Huai Khwang Police Station, authorities are exploring whether others were involved in the crime. This incident highlights ongoing concerns about impersonation and scams targeting foreign nationals in Thailand, reported Khaosod.
