Authorities have arrested three Chinese nationals for illegally entering Thailand while carrying a large cache of foreign mobile phone SIM cards, seizing a total of 8,628 cards during the operation. The arrests were made on 5 January, in Sa Kaeo province, near the Thai–Cambodian border, an area frequently monitored for cross-border crime. Police said the suspects were taken into custody along with all seized items for further legal action.

The operation was carried out by officers from Khlong Nam Sai Police Station working jointly with ranger forces and Sa Kaeo immigration officials. The coordinated effort followed ongoing security patrols aimed at intercepting unlawful border crossings and related illegal activities. The suspects were found in Khlong Nam Sai subdistrict of Aranyaprathet district, a known transit area for undocumented movement.

Authorities identified the three men as Chinese nationals who had entered and remained in the Kingdom without permission. In addition to immigration violations, officers confiscated 8,628 foreign SIM cards, identified as United States SIM cards, which were in the suspects’ possession at the time of arrest. Police have not disclosed the intended use of the SIM cards, but such items are often associated with organised cross-border crime and telecommunications-related offences.

After the arrests, officers formally charged all three suspects with being foreign nationals who entered and stayed in Thailand illegally. The men, along with the seized SIM cards, were handed over to investigators at Khlong Nam Sai Police Station to proceed with legal processes under the law. Officials confirmed that the evidence would be examined as part of the investigation.

Police Region 2 stated that it will continue integrated operations involving multiple agencies to prevent and suppress illegal activities. The regional command emphasised its commitment to strengthening security and public safety, particularly in border provinces such as Sa Kaeo. Authorities said cooperation between police, immigration and military units remains central to tackling transnational crime.

Khoasod reported that investigators will question the suspects and examine the seized SIM cards to determine whether additional offences are involved. Legal proceedings will continue in accordance with immigration and related laws. Officials indicated that further operations are planned to disrupt illegal entry routes and associated criminal networks.

"8,628 foreign SIM cards, identified as United States SIM cards,"

So they would they be of any use inn Thailand?

They could be from carriers like Ultra Mobile or US Mobile that have cheaper international calling rates when used outside the US.

Additionally CIB may have parameters for Asia numbers that have high volume usage so the US, Europe Sims may not be detected.

Anyways the story reads like they were Exiting Thailand. Hopefully they found a laptop and are able to access the mobile phones and find the money. That many SIMs there should be enough to locate.

Give them a day in a cell for each sim-card
