A wild elephant hit by a truck in Khao Yai, Thailand, has been found alive and stable. The elephant, known locally as Phlai Chom View, was located early January 8 after days of searching. Officials confirmed that the animal, which disappeared into the forest following the January 4 accident, is under observation with no serious injuries.

The incident occurred near the Mun Watershed Research Station entrance in Pak Chong district when a closed-box truck collided with the elephant. Search efforts were led by rangers and volunteers from the Protected Areas Regional Office 1. Volunteer leader Kook Nawikayothin spotted the elephant deep in Khao Yai National Park, ensuring no life-threatening injuries were present.

Despite being found in stable health, the elephant remains cautious around humans, a typical reaction after stress. Officials are closely monitoring Phlai Chom View and plan to guide him to a safer area within the conservation zone. This will help minimize future accidents and ensure his safety.

The Department of National Parks, Wildlife and Plant Conservation expressed gratitude to those involved in the search and urged the public not to disturb wild elephants. They highlighted the importance of reporting sightings to authorities promptly.

Elsewhere, in Sa Kaeo province, two wild baby elephants faced issues after straying from their herd. One was attacked by a buffalo, and another was caught in a snare in Khao Chakan district, showcasing ongoing challenges for elephants in the region, reported The Thaiger.
