Bangkok Airport Sees Record Low Temperatures

Suvarnabhumi International Airport recorded the lowest temperature in Greater Bangkok on Friday, with a chilly 16.1°C. The temperature drop is part of a broader cold spell affecting the area, with significant decreases also noted in other regions. Muang district in Nakhon Phanom experienced the coldest temperature nationwide at 6.9°C, surpassing previous low readings from Umphang in Tak.

The recent cold wave is attributed to weather patterns that have seen temperatures fluctuate dramatically across Thailand. On Thursday, Queen Sirikit National Convention Center reported the highest temperature in Bangkok at 30.5°C, while Phuket International Airport recorded the nation's highest at 32.5°C. Weather forecasts from the Meteorological Department indicate further drops, particularly over the weekend in Bangkok and surrounding areas, with lows anticipated to reach 16°C.

Experts suggest that this cold snap, while brief, could impact daily life and require adjustments for residents unaccustomed to such temperatures. The northern and northeastern regions are expected to experience a further decline by 3°C next week, while other areas may see slightly warmer conditions. Such abrupt weather changes are typical in transitional seasons and can affect everything from agriculture to energy demand.

Looking ahead, the Meteorological Department predicts a slight temperature increase in Bangkok starting Monday, offering some relief from the current chill. However, vigilance is advised for those living in the north and northeast, where colder conditions may persist longer. Residents are encouraged to stay informed through official channels to best prepare for ongoing weather shifts, reported Bangkok Post.

Key Takeaways

  • Suvarnabhumi Airport recorded a temperature of 16.1°C, the lowest in Greater Bangkok.

  • Muang district in Nakhon Phanom was the coldest nationwide with 6.9°C.

  • The north and northeast will continue to see lower temperatures next week.

In sharp contrast to international weather forecast centers.

Steady rise from next week.

We will see.

I am loving every minute of this cooler weather, and want to take advantage of it as it will like these start warming up considerably in the next several weeks.

Oh no Bangkok might lose their status of being the hottest Capital in the world
