Why are Jews the world’s most persecuted people?

In the two millennia of Anno Domini, Jews became the most persecuted people on earth. although I cannot find such attitudes before.

Jews lived in the South Levant (Canaan) from roughly 1200 BC. There seems to be no record of how their religion arose. Their neighbours were indigenous Canaanites, from whom the Jews and the Phoenicians were borne.

The Canaanites lived beside Jebusites, Amorites, Hivites, Girga<deleted>es, Hittites and Perizzites east of the Jordan River. Ammonites, Moabites, and Edomites lived in the areas east of the River.

The Philistines were non-Semitic people who settled the southern coastal plain of Canaan, now called Gaza. Other descendants of Judah were the Samaritans who were derived from two Israelite tribes.

The Israelite Jews were separated into 12 geographic tribes derived from ancestry and namesake. I find no record of conflict among them but it would be unique were there not.

Arameans were builders, founding Damascus. Israelites were often either vassals of or in conflict with the Egyptians, Assyrians, Babylonians, Achaemenids (who became Persians, in present-day Iran), Greeks. Finally, arrived the Romans and the whole Messiah issue arose.

As far as I have any understanding of Judaism, Jews were waiting for a saviour but it wasn’t Jesus.

The Romans had lots of ancient gods of their own. In the early years after the crucifixion, theological animosity dominated among the three beliefs.

From this moment on, Jews became scapegoats. Persecuted by the Alexandrians. In Western Europe, the Middle Ages saw the Roman Catholic Crusades; Jews were accused of spreading the Black Death; Jews were forcibly expelled from England, France, Spain.

Eastern Europe was no better. Ukrainian Cossacks attacked Jews in present-day Poland and Lithuania, and near-continuous pogroms throughout the Russian Empire and, later, the Soviet Union. Jews were subject to blood libels, forced conversions, massacres and expulsions.

Were these really fueled by religious hatred (an oxymoron in itself) and why?

There has long been the trope of the conniving, lying, cheating Jew, from Shakespeare’s Shylock in The Merchant of Venice to Dickens’ Fagin in Oliver Twist to the Rothchild bankers. The stereotype of the ‘crooked Jew’.

Why are Jews everywhere consider the “other”, outsiders?

Banned from most professions, Jews took up banking and moneylending. These built resentment, stereotypes of Jewish greed, miserliness and wealth which persist in conspiracy theories today.

Aside: Muslims are prohibited from lending money at interest. I wonder if this was intended to contrast favourably with Jewish usury to gain Muslim converts.

Jews were characterised by the trope of image of the Jewish mother: nagging, loud, manipulative, overprotective, smothering, overbearing, interfering, complaining and guilt-inflicting, her chicken soup as the solution to all life’s problems. Meek, nice Jewish boy. The North American snide and grasping Jewish Princess. Jews kvetch…they kvetch about kvetching.

The trope of the ‘Jewish Genius’ suggests that Askenazis and Sephardic Jews bear a superior native intelligence and cleverness. This, of course, makes them the subject of envy. Unfortunately, it is a racial myth.

Then there’s la belle Juive, the beautiful Jewess, full of lust, tempation and sin. Oboy.

Jews have always been a small enough group they provided an easy target to accuse of political turmoil, economic crises, communism and anarchism.

The historical truth is far removed from these tropes. Poor Jews living in shtetls in Russia and Eastern Europe suffered frequent pogroms of organised mob attacks of violence and destruction of property, often with the collusion and participation of local officials.

All these tropes are on your TV today. But they’re not antisemitic, they’re Jews laughing at the tropes manifest in other Jews, in exaggerated caricature.

Why are Jews so hated in the world?

I honestly can’t find an answer. What I do observe is that Jews have gone from not fighting back to unwarranted aggression. Neither serves a great image. We all have to remember that Jews can be brainwashed just like all the rest of us by a government serving its own racist agenda. So let's not blame the Jews in Israel. Just blame Bibi.

There's a bunch of mafia movies about crooked Italians / Italian Americans because it depicts 2% of them in reality.

Similarly, 2% of Jewish people are .... [fill in the blank] to whatever stereotype exists. Not 100% though.

Sorry to disappoint as your muse. No propaganda here and no AI. Just an honest question, open to all answers. Nothing about the present war on Palestine. Nothing about the Israeli govt. Just the questions: Why are Jews so despised?
