A Russian plastic surgeon has been found dead while on holiday in Thailand, prompting an ongoing police investigation and efforts by family and colleagues to repatriate his body. Timofey Borisov, aged 41, was discovered dead in Pattaya in early January.

Timofey originally from the Krasnoyarsk region of Russia, had travelled to Thailand alone after the New Year holidays and is believed to have acquaintances in the Pattaya. He checked into a hotel in Jomtien on 6 January. His body was found in his hotel room the same day of his arrival. Thai forensic experts reported to family members that he died as a result of a severe beating and signs of a struggle were identified at the scene. Police confirmed that cash, documents and personal belongings were not taken, ruling out robbery as a motive.

According to preliminary information shared by the family to Russian media, on 14 January, Timofey may have been killed several hours after witnessing an attempted rape of a woman, which he had called his mother to tell her of the incident. Investigators believe the suspected attacker may have followed him in an effort to eliminate a witness, though this theory has not yet been confirmed.

Julia, a former university classmate of Timofey, told that he went alone to Thailand and that friends are awaiting the final autopsy results. She said they hope for a thorough investigation by Thai police and support from the Russian consulate, adding that colleagues are mourning his death deeply.

Another acquaintance and former patient, Elena, said she last met  Timofey on 29 December, a week before his trip. She described him as a compassionate doctor who treated patients with care and responsibility, noting that he often took time to explain medical issues in detail.

Timofey graduated from Krasnoyarsk State Medical University with a degree in general surgery 19 years ago and sometimes used the name Boris Tyutyunikov, in his student days. He later retrained as a plastic surgeon. Friends said he was well respected by colleagues and patients alike.

Thai police are reviewing CCTV footage, questioning hotel staff and attempting to identify the woman Timofey reportedly mentioned before his death. No suspects have been officially named, and the investigation remains ongoing.

The Russian Embassy in Bangkok has joined the case and is assisting the family. As Timofey’s insurance did not cover death resulting from a criminal act, colleagues and patients raised funds for repatriation, collecting the required amount within 24 hours.

Key Takeaways

• Russian surgeon Timofey Borisov, 41, was found dead in Pattaya in early January following a reported violent assault.

• Investigators are examining a theory that he was killed after witnessing an attempted rape.

• Thai police and Russian diplomats are continuing investigations and assisting with repatriation.

The other thing that struck me as slightly strange is the statement that, "[he] sometimes used the name Boris Tyutyunikov."

Unless they're talking about some kind of online pseudonym (and it doesn't come across that way) why was he using two different names?

If they had left the room tidy they might have gotten away with it, Police

could say he injured himself ,case closed,

How many times have I read ,the room was tidy ,died of hypothermia or something,

no it was the tidy serial killer.....anyway RIP

How is it that one can be beaten to death in a hotel room, and no-one hear the beating while in progress?

The walls of most rooms in condos transmit almost all sound from adjoining rooms.

Same with hotel rooms.

The underworld and world of espionage has a network of physicians and surgeons to attend to its needs. If someone is injured in a shooting, there is medical care available. If someone needs a new face to avoid detection, a surgeon can do that. And when the case is too sensitive, people can disappear.

Interesting. Story noted he had "acquaintances," not friends, in Pattaya.

UPDATE

Russian Doctor Died after 16th-Floor Fall in Pattaya

image.jpeg

Police have released an updated official statement about the Russian doctor, Timofey Borisov, who died in Pattaya. The police statement contradicts some details of events initially reported to the Russian media, by the family and states that the doctor died after falling from a hotel, with police confirming the official cause of death as injuries sustained from a fall from height.

According to the official information sent to the Russian embassy, the doctor died after falling from the 16th floor of a hotel in Pattaya. Police said the death was reported on January 6 at approximately 20:57, when the duty investigator at the Pattaya city police department received a call from the D Varee hotel.

Officers were dispatched to the scene and found the body lying on the ground near the hotel building. He was identified as a Russian citizen, aged 41 and police documented extensive injuries consistent with a fall from a significant height.

The police report stated that he suffered fractures to his legs and facial bones, extensive skull damage with extrusion of brain tissue and massive blood loss. These findings were recorded at the scene as part of the initial investigation by Pattaya city police officers.

Following the preliminary examination, the body was transferred for a formal autopsy. The Institute of Forensic Medicine at the Central Police Hospital in Bangkok later determined the cause of death to be an open traumatic brain injury with rupture of brain tissue.

Police said the forensic conclusion aligned with the injuries observed at the scene and supported the assessment that the death resulted from a fall. The official cause of death was subsequently announced by the Pattaya city police department.

The case has been formally recorded by Pattaya city police, with documentation shared with relevant authorities. Police statements focused on the confirmed cause of death and the investigation into the sequence of events as reported from the night of January 6, remains ongoing.

Key Takeaways

• Pattaya police confirmed that the Russian tourist doctor died after falling from the 16th floor of a hotel on January 6.

• Officers reported severe injuries at the scene, including skull damage, fractures, and massive blood loss.

• A forensic examination in Bangkok ruled the cause of death as an open traumatic brain injury with rupture of brain tissue.

These types of deaths are reported frequently in Pattaya?

Defenestration is mainly a Moscow thing, but it does travel.

Was he already dead before falling from the 16th floor?

So, we go from... his body being found severely beaten in a hotel room...

to, not even a day later... he fell sixteen floors and died...

even for Thailand this is a breathtaking rewriting of events.

Will there be further updates or is this now...

Who flies all the way from Russia to Thailand, checks into a hotel, and jumps off the balcony the same day? Are there no tall building in Russia? He was a doctor. He had access to lethal drugs. He could have given himself an overdose and gone out peacefully.

A lot more to this story.

It could have been a jealous Thai boyfriend, meaning he was gay, or a State sanctioned assassination, or anything in between, like a bad business deal.

What about the attempted rape that he witnessed, and his room being ransacked? Were they also retracted?

Single males don't typically go through some self imposed hotel quarantine for a few days before they partake in what the family friendly resort city has to offer.

He calls his mom, not the police, with a bizarre story about witnessing a rape and then being followed. He was likely in a drug induced psychosis. At some point he decides to jump.

Uh dude he did not jump, he was beaten to death in his hotel room.

I'd sure be curious to see the CCTV footage in his hallway. (And measure the height of his balcony railing, but that's a whole 'nother topic)
