Trump announces tariffs on the UK and other European countries

It would appear the famed checks and balances the founding fathers established in the U.S. Constitution to prevent any single branch (legislative, executive, judicial) from becoming too powerful don't apply when there is a despot king in charge.

What a moron this man is; has he not understood, that with trade with the EU, there is no "single country" he can put tariffs on? How would you decide if a car that was produced in factories in Czech

And they will tell the USA to go F itself. Let's see if Trump still has the power to play with tariffs once the SCOTUS decides the case. The Supreme Court is deliberating on the legality of Trump’s

SCOTUS seem to be delaying their verdict on the tariffs. Twice in the last month pundits have predicted the judges would issue a verdict, only for nothing to happen.

They are having a hard time giving a verdict that upholds the law and doesn't upset their master thereby avoiding his vengeance at the same time.

I love it how we slap tariffs on the UK. Nothing to do with Denmark/Greenland but no doubt it is Presidentially sticking 2 fingers up at beta-boy sir kier. Im sure he was chanting "Kier Starmers a wa%$#&r" when he signed it.

Ho Ho Ho. More God level trolling by the Master🤣

Yes, clueless trolling. The only thing he's good at, and the only thing his clueless followers have as a comeback these day.

I feel for you, Sunny!🥰

Really? Maybe the UK can work on improving the EU once it rejoins!thumbsup

Don't count on it. The French would extort the life blood out of the UK before they let them rejoin and then, the migrant crisis would be even worse as Brussels would dictate even wider open borders.

Yet all these "threatened" nations are against Trump using the military to topple the Iranian govt.

Not really. They are waiting for an opportune time. Also, the views of the western nations like Germany who have profited from a relationship with Iran are suspect. KSA and UAE don't want to be bombed by a flailing Iranian regime that will want to take anyone it can get with it. Before they went, if they had any nuclear weapons, they would launch against Israel.

Your mind reading act is wearing thin. Aren't you the party who claimed the Trump was merely trolling when when it came to his threats about Greenland.

Trump really is doing a good job of uniting the world against America.

Anyone would think he was a stooge trying to destroy America and NATO.

Specific examples cited by analysts of Trump "chickening out" since resuming office:

  • European Union Tariff Reversal: After announcing a 50% tariff on all EU goods in May 2025, which caused global markets to tumble, Trump delayed the levy until July 9 following a phone call with European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen.

  • China Tariff Reductions: During trade negotiations in May 2025, Trump significantly reduced proposed tariffs on China from a high of 145% to much lower levels. Analysts noted this "back off" occurred after warnings that the high rates would cause immediate economic pain in the U.S.

  • "Liberation Day" Tariffs: Trump proposed steep "Liberation Day" tariffs in early 2025 but paused them just one week later in response to negative market reactions.

  • Market-Induced Policy Wobbles: Market analysts observed that during his first year back in office, the administration frequently showed a "low tolerance for market and economic pressure," leading to repeated reversals whenever policy announcements sparked significant financial volatility.

You dont understand negotiation, no biggie.

Some people's ideas of successful negotiation is sir kier gifting the Chagos archipelago to Chinas buddies Mauritius(who never owned nor had claims over the islands) and paying them $30 BILLION to accept the gift. So naturally they panic when witnessing hardball negotiations.

Not as simple as that negotiations to return the Chagos Islands was started by Richi Sunaks Conservative government in 2022.

AI Overview

The UK is ceding sovereignty of the

Chagos Islands to Mauritius primarily to secure the long-term future of the vital UK-US military base on Diego Garcia, resolving a long-standing international legal dispute that threatened the base's operations. Facing UN rulings that the UK unlawfully separated the islands from Mauritius before its independence, the deal transfers ownership but grants the UK/US a 99-year lease for the base, preventing potential legal challenges and interference, while also addressing historical injustices for the Chagosian people.

Key Reasons for the Deal:

  1. Legal Imperative: UN bodies and international courts, including the International Court of Justice (ICJ), found the UK's separation of the islands from Mauritius in the 1960s unlawful, creating significant legal jeopardy for the base.

  2. Securing the Military Base: The UK government argued that ceding sovereignty was the only way to prevent legal rulings from making the Diego Garcia base inoperable, ensuring its continued operation for UK and US national security.

  3. Preventing External Interference: The agreement establishes a clear legal framework, creating exclusion zones and conditions that prevent other nations (like China) from establishing a rival military presence or interfering with the base's operations, according to BBC.

  4. Addressing Historical Grievances: The deal aims to right the historical wrong of the forced removal of the Chagosian people, who were deported to make way for the base.

How the Deal Works:

  • Sovereignty Transfer: Full sovereignty of the Chagos Islands (British Indian Ocean Territory) transfers to Mauritius.

  • Lease Agreement: The UK retains an initial 99-year lease for Diego Garcia, ensuring the military base's continued use.

  • Financial & Security Provisions: The agreement includes financial payments and security arrangements.

Geopolitical Context:

  • The US welcomes the deal as it secures the strategically vital base, crucial for regional security, notes GOV.UK.

  • The agreement is seen by some as strengthening the UK's position in the Indian Ocean, especially concerning China, while others criticize it as a loss of strategic assets, notes Royal United Services Institute.

One of the totally illogical things about this is that one of the reasons Trump said the US absolutely must take over Greenland, was because Greenland isn't sufficiently protected, militarily.

If that were true, he should be happy (nay, delighted) that NATO is sending troops to Greenland, not announcing moves to punish them for doing so.

It's nothing to do with logic, imo. Trump is on a high after capturing the Venezuelan leader.

He really thinks he can 'own' the Americas.

It started off with the changing of the name of The Gulf of Mexico, then it was absorbing Canada, Greenland.

And if there really is a deal with Russia ( don't interfere in Venezuela and we'll let you have Ukraine), then he may believe he can expand US territory.

He really believes nothing can stop him except his own morality. Well he has none, so that's that.

Trump is forcing Denmark to defend Greenland, and the EU to assert its presence. Had the Danish taken Greenland seriously they wouldn't be in this predicament. Take a hint from Canada: It isn't panicking and has instead finally met its NATO spending promise and will invest in assuring its sovereignty in the arctic, Until Trump came along,Canada wasn't investing in protecting its borders. Same for Greenland.

Trump makes it very difficult to know who's side he is on he is very angry putin called to say they tried attacking his home omg these people in Ukraine who are getting bombed left right and centre 🙄 have they no heart ?

Mind you it could just as well be an excuse to execute zalenski family and trump will say its fair after what they tried to do.

I think all of Europe should unite and tax the hell out of American service companies Google ect really start the 2 sided game instead of always trying to 2nd guess this clown 🤡

Time then to remove the American presence from Greenland and replace the soldiers stationed there with a 'Coalition of the willing'.

I bet, Finnish soldiers would be delighted to be stationed there for some training -- being the true winter soldiers -- and teaching their European partners on how to fight off invaders (Americans included) in icy conditions.

Maybe toughen up some of those Rheinmetall military vehicles in the process.

I would be very happily spending a few of my German tax Euros on that!

And what has that got to do with your claim that Trump wasn't serious about taking over Greenland? What is that got to do with his threat of imposing new tariffs? You still think he's bluffing about those tariffs?

Sure the Taco' tangerine dream will mean Arriffs' by next week and we have millions of them already🤔
