  • Great move by Trump. Highlighted the stupidity, the ineptitude, the treachery of the liar Starmer and his absolute imbecile Lammy in one fell swoop.

If sir kier was Danish, he'd be gifting Greenland to the Chinese/Mauritius and paying then $30 BILLION to accept the gift. Luckily Trump is not sir kier.

  • Ok n May last year Trump was all in favour of this deal. What's changed since then (apart from seemingly a decline in Trump's mental health)?

"... Trump stated that the UK’s actions were of “GREAT STUPIDITY”...".

That, coming from the acknowledged world-expert on great stupidity!

Regardless of Trump's endorsement, this action by the current UK government shows that (on this occasion at least) they, unlike Trump, are prepared to acknowledge International Law.

As reported by CNN, in 2019 the International Court of Justice ruled that the UK must return the Chagos Islands to Mauritius “as rapidly as possible.”

CNN also notes that, although the judgment was non-binding, the UK has faced growing international pressure to give up control of the islands.

Even Sky News is reporting that in February 2025, Trump expressed preliminary support for the deal which is backed by Canada, Australia, New Zealand and India.

'He' is not cancelling elections. The government offered local authorities the chance to postpone the upcoming elections due to changes in the structure of local government. Some councils accepted the offer, others didn't.

Because incitement to riot, for example, is a criminal offence.

So in the interests of 'free speech' you don't believe that children should be protected and are ok for them to have unrestricted access to everything on social media and the wider internet.

What's your objection apart from objection for objection's sake?

There is facial recognition at airports for example. Should that be withdrawn? What about passports themselves? Obviously a form of physical ID: Withdraw them as well?

Anything goes? How should we consider accountability and responsibility? Optionally extras?

See also my comment re child protection above.

The neocons and neoliberals share some traits. Both are quick to point the finger at others for failure irrespective of where the actual fault might lie; both take no responsibility or accountability for their actions and both are completely intolerant of other views. That last trait being completely at odds with their supposed love of 'free speech'.

Whatever the relevance of the agreement, my point is that its main principles have been designed by the Tories.

No, your point is "But But But the Tories".

We all know the Tories were terrible, that's how Labour defaulted their way to power.

Labour is pushing through with this. So, save your whataboutism.

Let's talk about the Epstein files...

Wait! Look over there, it's the Chagos islands!

That's basically what Trump does he wakes up every morning and he rages he is truly one of the most miserable men on the planet and though he could be providing a lot of help and assistance to people around the world instead he chooses to make life miserable for as many people as he can including Americans.

The fact is he is the most moronic man in America today, his intelligence is quite low, and he just doesn't seem to have much in the way of solutions. Thankfully he'll be gone quite soon.

My point is what I wrote. The Tories started it, Labour finalized it, with the US approval.

I utterly loathe and despise both Trump and Starmer. Does that make me a hopelessly naive leftist or a far right looney? (I’ve been called both by friends and relatives).

The only great stupidity is currently residing in the White House….

It makes you well informed on UK affairs and totally unaware of American affairs.

Which is 50% better than many on this forum.

What an incredibly sad, pathetic and poorly informed reply. Keep guzzling that Kool-Aid, I hear it's quite effective.

I thought the subject for debate was the Chagos Islands but as usual the debate has been hijacked by a far right, unhinged poster who shoehorns his/her Trump supporting drivel into every subject.

I think he/she is challenging Harrisfan for the most thumbs down.

Second thoughts: maybe they’re the same person.

I'm just thankful Harris didn't win. The West would have been decimated with Starmer and Harris goose stepping together.

One thing we can all agree on is TRUMP has done a great job of dividing the USA further apart then ever...

Why anyone still keeps replying to that guy (JohnnyF) is a mystery to me! He only posts verbal diarrhea! It's a massive waste of time!

By David Swanson, World BEYOND War, January 20, 2026:

Associated Press reports: “‘Shockingly, our “brilliant” NATO Ally, the United Kingdom, is currently planning to give away the Island of Diego Garcia, the site of a vital U.S. Military Base, to Mauritius, and to do so FOR NO REASON WHATSOEVER,’ [Trump] said in a post on his social media platform Truth Social. ‘There is no doubt that China and Russia have noticed this act of total weakness.’

“‘The UK giving away extremely important land is an act of GREAT STUPIDITY, and is another in a very long line of National Security reasons why Greenland has to be acquired,’ Trump said.”

AP failed to explain that between 1968 and 1973, the United States and Great Britain exiled all 1,500 to 2,000 inhabitants of Diego Garcia, rounding people up and forcing them onto boats while killing their dogs in a gas chamber and seizing possession of their entire homeland for the use of the U.S. military.

AP failed, of course, to further explain that the U.S. government’s pursuit of military bases across the globe is a danger, not an act of responsibility or public protection. There seems to be a general ban in the U.S. corporate media, as well, on mentioning that in 1953, the United States made a deal with Denmark to remove 150 Inughuit people from Thule, Greenland, giving them four days to get out or face bulldozers, that they are being denied the right to return, or that the United States already has the ability to cover Greenland with military bases.

But let’s stop for a minute and soak in what it means for certain people to constitute “NO REASON WHATSOEVER.”

It doesn’t have to go on this way. People can learn about military bases. And people can shut them down. A Global Day of Action to #CloseBases is coming up in February: https://daytoclosebases.org

Highlighted the stupidity, the ineptitude, the treachery of everything you posted in this thread in one fell swoop.

Was it a TACO or a U turn? Or does the imbecile just not have a clue what he is saying from one day to the next? No doubt you will support his statement as that is your default position - thanks Jonny, glad you see sense.

The OP mentions "Britain's recent plan to return control of Diego Garcia, part of the Chagos Archipelago, to Mauritius.

That's inaccurate. The Chagos Is. were never owned or controlled by Mauritius. They were administered by the French, then the British, from Mauritius. Despite being moved to parts of Mauritius, the Seychelles and the UK in 1965, the native Chagossian people have already voiced their desire to remain British.
