A long-running dispute between two grocery shop owners ended in a fatal shooting in Bangkok’s Bang Kapi district, leaving one man dead and another in police custody. The incident occurred late on the night of 27 January in Ramkhamhaeng Soi 58/3, drawing a major police and forensic response. Officers confirmed the suspect surrendered at the scene and a murder charge has been filed.

Police from Hua Mak station were alerted to the shooting shortly before midnight and rushed to the location with senior officers, patrol units, forensic specialists, and rescue volunteers. At the scene, officers found the body of a 52-year-old man, identified as Mr Prayong, lying in a pool of blood outside a three-storey shophouse operating as a general grocery store. He had suffered two gunshot wounds, one to the chest and one to the right shoulder.

Investigators identified the suspect as Mr Thanat, aged 60, who owns a nearby grocery shop in the same alley. Police recovered a .38 calibre Colt revolver from the suspect’s residence. Mr Thanat did not attempt to flee and was taken into custody for questioning.

According to initial police interviews, the two men had been in conflict for some time over their competing businesses. Mr Thanat told investigators that he had operated his shop for many years, while Mr Prayong had opened a similar shop nearby about six months earlier. The proximity of the two shops reportedly led to frequent arguments over trade and customers.

On the night of the shooting, the dispute escalated after a heated verbal confrontation outside the suspect’s shop. Police said there was shouting, insults and challenges exchanged between the two men. Mr Thanat admitted that, in anger, he fired two shots at Mr Prayong, causing him to collapse at the scene.

Medical staff from Police General Hospital later confirmed the victim had died from his injuries at the scene. Forensic officers documented the scene and collected ballistic evidence for further examination. Rescue teams from Siam Ruam Jai and the Poh Teck Tung Foundation assisted with the recovery of the body.

Police have charged Mr Thanat with homicide. He remains in custody at Hua Mak police station and has been handed over to investigators for formal legal proceedings. Authorities said further questioning and evidence review will continue as the case moves through the justice system.
