Maybe you are making the wrong assumptions and then drawing the wrong conclusions on the wrong assumptions you made. In fact I’m pretty sure that’s it.

  • I would say there is very few leftists on this forum compared to right wings. Us in the middle are often labeled lefts because we do not agree with fascist ideas or Magas! That's a big difference fr

  • Well speaking personally, I uprooted myself from my home country, moved to Northern Thailand, married, raised a daughter, had a fulfilling and enjoyable second career teaching, and now live in peacefu

Benito Mussolini had several notable relationships with former socialists, both personally and politically, during his transformation from a socialist to a fascist dictator.

  • Margherita Sarfatti, a Jewish intellectual and writer, was Mussolini’s domestic partner from 1911 to 1931 and played a key role in shaping early fascist ideology. She was a former socialist and a prominent figure in Italian cultural circles, often called the "Jewish Mother of Fascism."

  • Filippo Corridoni and Sergio Panunzio, both former Italian socialists, broke with orthodox Marxism during World War I and supported Italy’s intervention in the war. They became early allies of Mussolini, contributing to the ideological shift toward revolutionary nationalism.

  • Dino Grandi, a close confidant and later a leading fascist, was initially involved in socialist circles before joining Mussolini’s movement. He was a key figure in the Fascist Party’s formation and later opposed the Pact of Pacification in 1921.

  • Italo Balbo, another prominent fascist leader, was influenced by nationalist socialist ideas and joined Mussolini’s movement after the war. He was a veteran of the Arditi, a paramilitary unit of World War I, and a strong advocate of the "trenchocracy" concept.

  • Pietro Nenni, a leading socialist and later a key figure in the Italian Socialist Party, was a political opponent of Mussolini but maintained a complex relationship with former socialist figures who joined fascism.

One moment you say the left socialists are fascist like Mussolini and then you post he transitioned from socialism to a fascist dictator......if you had half a brain you would be dangerous. Benito Mussolini, was a member of the Italian Socialist Party as he was a publisher of Socialist Newspapers, but after he was kicked out of the Party since he believed World War One could result in the creation of Socialist uprisings across Europe. And after being Kicked out, he became extremely Anti-Socialist as well as Anti-Communist, and joined the Fasci di Azione Rivoluzionaria which later on became the National Fascist Party.

Benito Mussolini started as a dedicated socialist, editing socialist newspapers and advocating for revolutionary change, but he dramatically shifted to fascism during World War I, eventually founding the fascist movement that blended extreme nationalism with state control, rejecting traditional socialism's internationalism and class struggle for a "revolutionary nationalism" that upheld private property under state direction, making him a fascist leader, not a socialist.

Mussolini's Socialist Beginnings:

  • Youth & Activism:

Mussolini was raised by a socialist father, named after socialists, and became a fervent socialist journalist, even becoming editor of the Italian Socialist Party's newspaper, Avanti!.

  • Core Beliefs:

He preached violent revolution, admired Marx, and was active in socialist circles in Switzerland and Italy.

The Turn to Fascism:

  • World War I:

His support for Italy's entry into WWI caused his expulsion from the Socialist Party in 1914, marking a major break from traditional Marxism.

  • Nationalism:

He became a strong Italian nationalist, serving in the army and later founding the Fasci Italiani di Combattimento (Italian Combat Fascio) in 1919, which evolved into the Fascist Party.

Fascism vs. Socialism:

  • Economic Policy:

While socialism seeks state ownership of production, fascism, under Mussolini, allowed private ownership but subjected businesses to strict state control, creating a corporatist system where the state dominated industry.

  • Ideology:

Fascism opposed socialist egalitarianism and class conflict, instead promoting "revolutionary nationalism" that transcended class, uniting all Italians under the state's direction.

In essence, Mussolini was a socialist who abandoned socialist principles to create fascism, a distinct political ideology that incorporated elements of nationalism and state control while rejecting core socialist tenets.

While critics argue they all result in top-down control of life, they differ fundamentally on the aim of that control—socialism aims for equity, while fascism aims for national supremacy.

There is one thing true about socialism. Socialism is for the people not the socialist.

This is not true. AI scrapes sources over the internet and uses complex math and algorithms to organize the data. This is a simple explanation. Early on, Google had a dumb bias in its AI, and it was soundly mocked for it.

Thailand is an autocracy: The system is loaded against progressive parties, and the country’s political spectrum is skewed far to the right by global standards, making even moderate reforms appear radical.

Which begs the question why are there so many far left farangs there?

They're here for the beaches and temples, fool.

TH is definitely right leaning. I wouldn't say "the system is loaded" against the left, but the left leaning parties are new, so with all new parties, they have to fight their way into the game.

With the old, conservative based military firmly in place in politics, and the amount of coups, hard to say TH is not right leaning.

The Commies are what's called the left and they pretty got run out of Dodge on a rail in the late 70's, eventually throwing the towel in.

The new Thai parties are not "left-leaning" at all. They are moderate and centrist, but I guess when you're way over there in far right field, one's political depth perception is all shot to buggery.

But you've nailed the Amart as rightist. The Prai not so much.

That's a big difference from being a leftist!

Spot on sir!

I blame Dubya for kicking this nonsense off with his, "You're either with us, or you're with the terrorists" speech to Congress. With those few, nervously breathy words, the middle ground was buried. The current administration is now nuking the burial ground ahead of paving it over, like Dubya failed to do to Iraq.

When it comes to Thai politics, I wish Norway and Europe had the same system when it came down to foreigners wanted to live and work in Norway, rights to own land, and how to get citizenship, and welfare.

18 months for my wife to get family reunion, and she can not travel to Norway during the application! When I applied, I could travel in and out, and renewal is 4-5 hours.

That's interesting. In the US, once a foreigner petitions for a green card through spousal affiliation, unless there are very exceptional circumstances, they are prohibited from leaving the US until the petition is either approved or denied.

Weird.

This thread is about “Thailand is Far Right” and has nothing to do with the left's obsessive MAGA Trump disorder.

With the OP openly channelling his lefty-phobia, what did you expect?

Where? I've found the expat community to be far more conservative than liberal. There's a "Trump Tower Bar" in Pattaya now. Still waiting for Pelosi's Pub 🙂

The Pelosi Pub is probably in Bangkok.

This apparent schism has been the subject of discussion in several forum threads over the years, but it seems the red caps hold sway in the sexpat playgrounds and Nakhon Nowhere, while the lefties fly their flag in Bangkok.

If you claim to be "in the middle", why are you standing way the f__k over there?

Far right

Limited healthcare

Limited pension

Limited dole

Limited child support

A woman in OZ can have 5 kids to 3 blokes and gets $2000 a week and doesnt have to work. Dole for bludgers. Nice pension. Cheap drugs.

Are condoms illegal in Australia or what?

No. The righties on a sabbatical from their seaside sexpat havens and provincial backwaters hang out at Nana.

The lefties are back home in their condos, waiting for a food delivery, plumb tuckered out after another hard day at the temples.

No, you will need to refer to Asian books to fulfill that topic.

Not anywhere nearly as strange as your fixation with ‘lefties’.

We where lucky enough to have two years tourist visa they didnt cancel when we applied 10 months ago, but that expired now, so now she cant follow me to Norway, even I applied also because of my moms health it was denied, so now she might not be able to come to norway if my mom passes the next 8 months. Horrible system. But if I moved to another EU country, she could follow me, so I was tempted to move to sweeden, just to make it happen quicker, but now I changed my mind, Im packing up in Norway when my mom is gone, and move for good to Thailand.

I do not complain about Norway in general, but EU becomes what we do not want it to and even norway do not have membership, we are the best one to make all the changes to adopt as quick as possible. Starts to be difficult to run a business, rentals, keep property and not be present. Anyway, a bit more details than necessary. But I gamble on Thailand for the future.

"far right" ... you forgot to add MAGA fascist.

Love it when people tell me my political leanings, when they don't know me. Maybe this will help ...
