reports of cambodian "activity"

Not sure if this is in the correct forum but I'm sure that will be corrected if its not,

Has anybody else noticed a sudden increase on the TV news of reports regarding cambodian activity near the border?

Does anybody else think these reports might have more to do with the upcoming elections rather than any real threat?

To my knowledge ,none of the political parties have mentioned any commitment to reducing tensions in the area , and it's no surprise to me, that there seems to be no mention of compromise from any of the political leaders. Not a surprise really , patriotism / nationalism is strong here and any suggestion of any compromise would spell political suicide for anybody considering it

The whole Cambodia conflict was based on Thai politics

That too, but why now, again...

Not seen anything and a navy golf course i go to has just reopened to foreigners again so tensions were easing

Not sure if there is anything actually happening at the border right now. wife's family is based in Ubon and an uncle and cousin are career soldiers, stationed at the border, participated in the recent clashes.

But for about a month now everything is quiet, at least in their area.

If BJT feel they need an election boost, there will some small clashes next Friday/Saturday to stir patriotism.

Why on Earth would tensions cause them to close the golf course to foreigners? Cambodians spies going to dig holes on the greens or something?

There doesn't actually have to be anything actually happening, just a report that there is or even a report that there maybe would be enough to provide the politicians with an opportunity to respond

possibly for the same reasons they saw fit to evacuate hundreds of thousands of people

They all feel they need an election boost, the nationalism , patriotism , is not unique to BJT.

The bit I saw on the Thai news last night was reporting about cambodians allegedly being evacuated from the areas close to the phra wiharn temple , the assumption was that this was a prelude to further hostilites

There was a video clip, in the usual mobile phone format, of people moving en masse, but it was not clear when it was made, which has been usual throughout the conflict . There was also a clip of some very young looking cambodian soldiers brandishing an RPG

It is when they are still the government and can dictate border shenanigans.

An American was found taking photos in an army base, soon after they banned all foreigners from entering the base where i play golf

I have no Idea what you mean by that, as, all the parties are as nationalistic as the electorate , all would use any conflict to enhance their popularity, none are calling for compromise as a solution to the problems with cambodia, Very Very few Thais,if any, would agree to giving up any of their land to Cambodia under any circumstances

You missed my point entirely, so lets just leave it at that and hope next weekend is incident free on the border.

Personally I believe it's more to do with the upcoming elections...I believe we will get more reports, all fake, I wouldn't be surprised if fighting starts...the PM doesn't care if young soldiers die, he is only interested in power, and that means votes... let's face it, there was no reason to start fighting in the first place...the border has been in place since 1904, acknowledged by the king, Rama V... basically, not acknowledging the border is in contravention of Lese Majeste laws.

Thailand, like spoilt kids, lost twice in the ICJ so withdraw... basically, a big dummy spit
