A man in Mukdahan province has admitted to killing a dog by throwing it into a fire, allegedly after becoming angry when the animal ate his fried eggs. The incident, which occurred on 30 January, has led to a police investigation and caused severe distress to the dog’s owner.

The case came to light on 1 February after the owner, Mr Wichit Phakhi, 53, filed a police complaint supported by video evidence. Mr Wichit said he returned home at about 7.30pm on 30 January and did not find his dog, which usually waited for him at a nearby junction. After searching the area, he went to the house of a neighbour with whom he had previously argued and discovered his dog being burned on a fire.

Mr Wichit recorded a video as evidence and later brought the dog’s remains to the police station. He works as a scrap dealer and often returns home late, which he said made his dog’s disappearance immediately concerning. The dog, named Bo, was 10 months old.

Police later located the suspect, Mr Thummee, 50, who lives about one kilometre from the dog owner’s home. Speaking to reporters while intoxicated, Mr Thummee admitted that he killed and burned the dog but claimed he did not know who owned it. He said the dog frequently came to his house and that on the evening of 30 January it ate fried eggs he had prepared for his meal.

According to Mr Thummee, he became angry, struck the dog, and threw it into the fire. He insisted that he did not intend to cook or eat the animal. The incident has shocked the local community, particularly the dog’s owner, who said he is currently staying with relatives because he cannot cope with returning home.

Mr Wichit said the image of his dog waiting for him every evening has made it impossible for him to resume normal life. He described the loss as deeply traumatic and said he needs time before returning to his house. His account was given during a telephone interview with reporters.

Amarin reported that Pol Colonel Prayut Rueanthongkham, superintendent of Mueang Mukdahan Police Station, confirmed that officers are expediting additional questioning of the victim. He stated that legal proceedings against the suspect would be carried out in accordance with the law. Police have not yet disclosed the specific charges but confirmed the case is being handled as a criminal matter.

Amazing cruelty.

That was a frickin' puppy!

Anyone who knows me knows I have an extreme dislike for dogs, but for ANY animal to be treated like this is unacceptable. This man needs to be punished - first by the law, then by natural justice.

How can a human be so cruel to an animal. It's really heartbreaking to read things like this. I really feel sorry for the dog and I understand that the dog owner is in deep shock.

The guy who killed the poor dog has to be punished really hard.

How do you know it was a puppy ?

These things wouldn't happen if owners kept their animals on their property.

Maybe you should read the article ... or have someone read it to you.

About 10 years ago I stayed at a small resort in Mukdahan. We had our 2 small pom mixes with us. Out of the blue the owner tells us, "You don't have to worry they know the small ones are pets."

Did the fire just happen to be there, or did he start it to burn the dog? If he threw the dog in the fire, surely it would immediately jump out with little injury, which begs the question, did he tie it up before he threw it on the fire or had he already killed it. The point is, sounds premeditated, not in a fit of anger as he claims.

Cruel beyond belief. Jail with phys

ical punishment if I had my way. Very sorry for the owner.

Pretty messy and hair trigger anger... and all over a couple of eggs. The depths so many scumbags will sink to now is just nuts.

Maybe he wanted some meat to go with his eggs?

No necessarily. A couple years back the meth addict that lives across the street from us burned his dog alive. It was horrible. There was so much smoke we thought the house was burning down and called the fire dept. Police nabbed him. He is still in jail.

I read the rticles and comments on this forum daily for 3 years and have only made one comment.whilst I do not hate dogs, I have read that Thailand has a problem with dogs roaming the streets 24/7. Dogs roaming the streets without evidence of ownership are considered to be soi dogs. These dogs breed more unwanted street dogs .
Bo, in particular is allowed to roam the neighbourood up to one kilometre from home in search of food. Me Thummee advises that the dog has frequented his home and he did not know who may have owned the dog. On this occasion he ate Mr Thummees dinner which was fried eggs.

I do not condone Mr Thummee's actions. However allowing a dog to roam the streets all day and video recording the
incident does little to support the owners trauma and distress. It is my personal opinion that the alleged level of trauma and distress is more related to compensation rather than the tragic death of his part-time pet.

At the next rocket festival in Isaan, they ought to strap this guy to the largest rocket and send him off. Alternatively, they could have him sit on a stove for a few minutes to see if it produces better fried eggs than chicken eggs.

This guy needs to be harshly and painfully punished, in one way or another.

My two female blond dalmations are 7 months old, they are still puppies, but you wouldn’t know it by the size of them:IMG_0219.jpeg

BTW they are only in the cage during the hottest part of the day, most times they are running around the fenced in ppty. Peace

I have mixed feelings. Yes, it is absolutely inhumane and a very cruel thing to do and feel for the owner. Anyone who can do that to a dog has some issues that probably need to looked into (drugs, alcoholism, anger issues or undiagnosed phycopathic tendencies.) This is not a excuse for this guys behavior, but Thailand has serious issues with dogs running around everywhere. My Thai family lives in a small housing area where thier nearest neighbor has a female golden retriever. She was never fixed and has several litters of puppies running around the neighborhood. The neighbors don’t have enough money to feed the dogs anything except rice, so the dogs run around into the yards of all the neighbors looking for food. This seems to be pretty common.

We're basically living in a shared ecosystem, not just a "house." Humans are the ones trying to enforce "property laws." Hungry or bored dogs will chew whatever smells interesting. Sweat + leather + salt = irresistible. So, yes, I lost a pair of shoes. My wife found her right shoe destroyed at the neighbor’s door. Shoes are supposed to stay paired.

It’s not malice. It’s instinct and lack of proper stimulation.

We have to learn to live among other creatures here: mice, cats, birds, dogs, wasps. I'm living among a whole cast of freeloading little roommates. Mice try to eat their way out by chewing a small hole in our bedroom door.

Even though boiled eggs don’t smell super strong to us, dogs have insane noses and can pick up the rich “animal protein” scent easily. Unowned dogs are wired to seek out calorie-dense foods. Eggs = energy + nutrients. If a dog normally eats rice or scraps, an egg is like finding treasure.

The dogs aren't vandals. They're opportunistic caloric economists, just like our little hens who also walk around freely. You can find their droppings everywhere if you look carefully—and yes, they will step without hesitation on their own fresh droppings.

The hens provide eggs. In return, they distribute droppings everywhere. This is the contract.

Humans are the ones trying to enforce order with doors, porches, and the fantasy of paired shoes. It's chaotic, but it's also kind of beautiful in a messy, tropical place.
