Kasikorn Bank Account

Featured Replies

  • Popular Post

So this morning went to Kasikorn Bank Udon Thani branch and opened an account.

I had to have a Non O visa along with proof of my Thai address and proof of my U.K address.

I used my Thai driving licence for my Thai address and my U.K licence for my U.K address.

It took about 30 or more minutes for all the forms to be filled out on a tablet and photo copies etc but was easy enough if you have all the right documents and address proof.

I will use this account for my extensions and my Bangkok Bank account for daily banking.

Thanks for report.

Did they suggest alternative for TDL for proof of address.

Perhaps COR or Lease etc

The first thing they suggested was a yellow tabien baan ,which I do not have. They then suggested a Thai driving licence of which I have both car and motorbike.

As I have the driving licence they did not mention anything else.

I did expect them to ask for a COR and was pleased that it was not required due to having a driving licence as proof of address.

I'm on extensions retirement and when I wanted to open account with Kasikorn they wanted COR or Lease.

I used my lease.

Good to know TDL acceptable.

By way of contrast BBL wanted COR or Embassy letter (nonsense)

Good info thanks .

Did the Bangkok Bank shenanigans ( re: immigration letters ) cause you to seek another banking option ?

Yes the Bangkok Bank freezing of funds and more importantly the fact it takes 7 days for a yearly statement to be issued with them compared with on the spot with other banks.

I’m just curious to know, did the bank ask for confirmation of your UK address (e.g. your UK driving licence), and if so why would they need that?

I ask because I'm considering doing the same as you.

Same here.....moving away from Bangkok Bank once my visa extension is completed.

What if you have no UK address I wonder?....Just make one up....a friend or a relative's?

Can you not have a pdf emailed to you via a request on the app?

Most offices would not accept statements from app.

Needs to be statement from a bank with nice stamp and signature.

When I opened a, Kasikorn account few, years back, I don't recall proof of Oz address. Example by way of DL etc.

I may have written my sisters address.

Here is link to clearly outlined requirements.

https://www.google.com/url?sa=t&source=web&rct=j&opi=89978449&url=https://www.thaiembassy.com/thailand/opening-a-bank-account-in-thailand&ved=2ahUKEwio9P2QjdOSAxU2ffUHHZfzFPgQFnoECBQQBQ&usg=AOvVaw13N-lYDUs0BfyD8Uc-eKko

In list of requirements states:

"State ID from home country or driver’s license"

I think the word "address" Is lost in translation. Your home country pp may be accepted even though an address, is not listed.

Sadly, I just returned from Kasikorn without a new account, because I do not have the 3rd piece of ID they require (new 2025). They need a National ID card, or Driver;s license. America doesn't have the ID card & my DL expired 2 years ago & I can't renew online in my state! Looks like I'll have ti find another bank so I can get away from Bangkok Bank & their *^% funds freezing for 4-6 months

From my experience, while some banks ask for a foreigner's "home address" (address in home country, that is), they usually don't require actual proof for it. I've shown them scans of letters addressed to my home country address, for example.

My home country DL doesn't have an address on it and my passport lists Bangkok as my place of residence, so I don't really have any official document that could be used to verify my home country address. So far, that hasn't been an issue with any Thai bank.

Three? I'm UK and we don't have ID's......I can only think of passport and DL with photos.

Thanks for that. Was unaware of this requirement 2025.

What was the two forms of ID you provided. Passport and......

There would be many folk that don't possess a National ID or DL.

Fortunately I have valid Oz DL.

We likewise don't have National ID

If you read my initial post ,the one you have quoted the answer to that question is in the quote.

I supplied Thai Marriage license & Thai driver's license as well as passport with 1 year marriage Visa. They showed me a form that says they now require an additional Home country ID of a Driver's license or National ID. USA doesn't have National ID but they do have a New Real Me ID issued at DMV. Both require a personal visit to my home state DMV office No online applications. Sad!

Well as I experienced Kasikorn Bank required proof of home country address with a home country driving licence and Thai address proof with either a Yellow tabien baan or a Thai driving licence.

If you have neither of the proof of Thai address ,then I would think a COR from Immigration will be accepted.

So how do you supply proof of your made up address?

Thank you for this information. I am so pissed off at Bangkok bank. After freezing our account and two months of back and forth requiring more and more paperwork first it was a driving license (went and got that), then a letter from immigration (did that) and finally they wanted yellow book (which we don't have) and/or a work permit (retired) or a 90 day report (LTR visa no 90 report.) Just closed the account and had to argue to get the money out. I am so done! We will try Kasicorn. We will see what happens.

Not accepted by IO if not officially stamped by a bank 'official'.

Many thanks.  Sorry.... You clearly said “I had to have a Non O visa along with proof of my Thai address and proof of my U.K address” in your OP.  My bad… Old age 😁.

Also, several other members have subsequently confirmed that Kasikorn have apparently recently introduced the requirement of needing to provide proof of home country address when attempting to open a new account with them.

As I mentioned, I'm also looking to open an account with Kasikorn for basically the same reason as you (and many other members). In the next few days I'll pop into my local branch and make enquiries regarding their new account requirements.

I appreciate that you may not have the answer to the second part of my original question, but I’m still curious to know the reason(s) why Kasikorn have introduced this requirement, bearing in mind that many expats may not have any official ID from their home country with their address on it. If when I make my enquiries, they confirm that proof of home country address is a requirement, I will ask them why, and what alternatives they will accept if one doesn't have such official ID..

FYI…. I have scanned copies (on file) of my Bangkok Bank produced statements which I have used to support my application for permission to stay based upon retirement for the past 5 years.

I would confirm that: -

They have all been produced by dot matrix printers, with perforations on both edges of each page.

There is one page for each month.

There is no letterhead on any of the pages... Just the account holder's details.

None of the statements have been signed or been officially stamped.

My local IO (Nakhon Pathom) have accepted these statements without any question.

There's 75+ immigration offices.

What Nation Somewhere allows others not so.

Fortunately all but BBL can produce 12 month bank statement on the spot. 200b

Suggest that the trigger was huge numbers of scam accounts created for money laundering.

In particular from certain nationalities

What, with their ridiculous new requirement for proof of (non-existent, in most cases) home country addresses, Kasikorn are now, I feel, on an equal footing at least to Bangkok Bank when it comes to the shabby treatment of foreigners who, in their eyes, have the audacity to want to open and operate accounts with them.

But, thankfully, there are other banking alternatives to both Bangkok Bank and Kasikorn.

Anyone opened an account with Krung Thai bank recently?

That's very interesting.

I always thought that there was an International standard for the display of information on the ID page of passports.

My Swiss passport, for example, has an information field labelled "Authority" that indicates the location (town/city) where the passport office that issued the passport was located. Is this the place in your passport which you are mistaking for the indication of your residence?

The single biggest problem in communication is the illusion that it has taken place
