My most harmonious relationships have been with intelligent woman 20 years my junior starting at my age of 40.

The closer you are in age the closer your thinking would be. The further away, if over 20 years or so, and you're likely trying to relate to someone in another generation. Different maturity, thinking, friend groups, habits, likes and styles unless one gravitates towards the other, which means changing your way of life, which isn't a good thing as you should be you.

Of course many are doing this, but the best relationships occur when people are close to the same age level. If one is a lot older, the younger one will eventually become a caretaker for the other, which looks more like a parent-child relationship and less a couple.

The best age distance is usually 3 or so years apart, although that's hard to come by here, as most men want that younger woman they couldn't get back home. The more a gap, the more money is also involved, mostly coming from the man. Shared future plans and hobbies are always going to help, along with a commitment to the relationship, equal sharing of duties and same child rearing ideals, if there are children.

Remember, to the younger women here, you're the ancient mariner, and if you knew what they thought about it, you would understand more how they feel and how they see you.
