Im not sure I got answer on this one?

What do you mean by this? I might have hard for it, but I rather ask once to much, than one to little, and if I missed the explanation, sorry about that.

«Be aware that apart from standard photocopies CW also now require bank book photocopies + update on day of stamp transfer»

You don't deal with CW so not relevant.

I put that out there to avoid folk doing transfed of stamps at CW being caught out.

It's a new additional requirement at CW to provide updated bank book and photocopies of pages.

Obviously checking for financial compliance.

When I last did transfer to new pp, it was just by luck I had my bank book with me. So was, able to cover new requirement.

No! Do not enter visa exempt. You enter on the new passport but you show your re-entry permit in the old one and you enter on that permit. Make sure they stamp you in properly!

That is 100% a false belief and you'll run yourself off the rails if you do that 😵 As @Upnotover correctly stated, you show both passports when you stamp in. Passport control will stamp you in on the

  • Just as well that you asked. The first two posts from Tod and Up, have pointed out the process. Enter with both pp. Old and New. You may/should present both to airline at departure to Thailand. Sh

Very true. I went through a real hassle last month at AIS because I had not updated. My local AIS would not accept a PP photocopy or photo on my phone. They had to scan the actual new document as well as scan my face again. (apologies for tangent, but it's a good point.)

If prepaid (not sure about postpaid) you could have done it in their app.

I will renew my pp in april,

You have enough time to get your new passport here in Thailand and visit immigration to get all this sorted before you leave. Why wait and complicate things.

I believe it used to be the case you had to get a letter from the Embassy about the passport change.

In my case my old passport, not Norwegian, was stamped by the issuer of the new passport here in Thailand stating that it has been superseded by the new passport #xxx1234 and that the old passport maybe used for the purpose of presenting any valid visa so that it maybe continued.

I took both passports to local Imm and they stamped the new one that I had entered Thailand on the old passport and two "copy" stamps duplicating my last two entries to Thailand on the old passport.

Maybe this happens all the time at the airport and the busy Imm officers know exactly what to do. I'm sure it will take time much to the chagrin of the people behind you in the queue.

It is easy and quicker to renew pp in home country.

That is no longer the case.

That won't happen. He will be stamped in according to date on reentry permit and at some point he will attend immigration where the stamps were issued to transfer stamps and visa, info.

Which he would need to do regardless of where pp is renewed

To many things going on for the moment, and it could take up to 3 weeks to get the passport. Bangkok is a 800km round trip as well for us, but I checked the possibilities making a new passport at the Embassy, and decided to book time back home instead. Still got the feeling I just met the wrong person at the wrong time, and it wont happen again, unless I use the same airline and meet her again.
