Yeah, the bulk of which are done by people with H-2A temporary agricultural worker visas, yes?

In any event, I can do without strawberries.

Just for a change of pace, provide a link to a reliable source to back up your claim.

Another dishonest article from the Trump obsessed left. From the article: "They make up over 40 percent of all US workers in agriculture, 30 percent in food production and construction, and over 20 p

The left are liars and always have to conflate the two.

  • The issue isn't with immigrants... Once again it's illegal immigrants. .. Why cant you understand that! Some illegal immigrants are actually hardened criminals, the others well they broke the law too,

And as labor becomes scarcer and wages go up, more Americans will be willing to do that work.

If they're capable of getting off their fat arses

They won't as long as they're paid to stay home.

People like you are too good to do work like that, people like me are not.

There you go again, making it personal. Which means, of course, that you've got nothing.

Thanks for the wise guy response. Now how about support for the claim about agricultural workers. You know, this one:

"Yeah, the bulk of which are done by people with H-2A temporary agricultural worker visas, yes?"

Oh, that was a question, not a claim.

"There is no evidence that domestic workers are filling these jobs, no boom in automation investments, or noticeable wage increases in these sectors," writes the Peterson Institute of International Economics.

Confirmed by the fact that US born unemployment increased under Trump!

So you are asking me as an authority to pronounce on the truth of that? I'm touched by the trust you place in me. But I think it's better that you look for the answers to such questions on your own. And, for a change, you might want to share that evidence with the rest of us.

And associated with the above is.........."In January, the New York Times reported that nearly every major crop in the United States was selling for less than what it costs to produce".

So trump and his clown circus really aren't doing anything good for the farmer/producer; sort of a "shot themselves in the foot" scenario!

I said my piece, showed your claim to be false and no one showed otherwise. What's left to talk about?

Just out of curiosity, for those who agree that the US is more or less addicted to illegal labour: who DO you think should be deported, if anyone? And conversely who should be left alone?

For me, ICE should be targetting criminals both convicted and accused, which they generally do. However, if other illegal aliens are swept up at the same time, they get taken too. They do not get released. Including anyone who used to have TPS.

I think everyone in the country illegally should be deported.

It is amusing that the left always argues that they are against open borders and mass migration, but then they always tip their hand when they try to make their lame arguments about how the US can't get along without them.

The question is whether or not Americans are willing to suffer permanent damage to their health to do these jobs or just put up with extreme discomfort. Especially given the lack of fitness prevalent among the US adult population.

"Lack of fitness"? Does this also include bone spurs?

Ai and robotics should and will solve the issue worldwide, once and for all.

Yep and that way most people will be broke and poor.

yes, but they will not spend thousands to cross half the world and the oceans to go to western countries, only to end up still broke and poor

Quite true. It's no secret that both technologies are being employed to replace workers in order to cut labor costs.

Will be interesting to see in say 20 years who is still buying stuff.

I can't wait (sarc).

AI and robotics won't make a big difference

AI and robotics won't replace the workeres in the agriculture sector or building houses.

The power consumption of the data centers will be drastic high too.

New tariff uncertainties and fears of disruption caused by artificial intelligence (AI) weighed on US stock markets at the start of the week.

US stock markets started the week with significant losses. The contentious issue of tariffs remains unresolved after Trump ordered new import duties. Furthermore, fears are growing about the disruption that AI could cause in many industries.

The Dow Jones Industrial Average fell 1.7 percent to 48,804 points. The S&P 500 closed 1 percent lower, and the Nasdaq Composite lost 1.1 percent.

AI is not only replacing jobs it is consuming an ordinate amount of electricity with more data centers being built.

If only that was reality. This is now. 20 years from now things will be much different.

For perspective this is one is 7 years ago.

This is recent.

There are so many more but I think you get the idea.

Before I retired, I worked in the construction industry for nearly 50 years. Over the years I have seen so many changes, but nothing even close to this.

Think of an AI that is capable of learning every single trick of the trade of every plumber( which is still a ways off) that ever existed.....in a matter of minutes.

I do understand very well. I worked on robots myself for a few years (commissioning and startups worldwide).

Building walls etc. is one thing. Replacing electricians, plumbers or harvesting out in the fields I'm not so sure that this can be done by robots within the next 30 years. Until then I will be dust anyway :-)

Im not disagreeing but in my own lifetime the changes have been remarkable. It might take a while yet but eventually they will be able.

Odds are ill be around to see it unfold. Ill send you a dm and let you know 😆

Do you think that building trade unions will put up resistance to this? Featherbedding comes to mind.

As I remember robots are pretty expensive. I'm sure the price has come down, but still.
