Visa Runs Limited to 2 Under New Thailand Immigration Measures

  • Popular Post

From the "Horses Mouth" (Thai Gov Public Relations Department)...

https://thailand.prd.go.th/en/content/category/detail/id/2078/iid/444048

Thailand's Immigration Bureau has launched four measures to prevent foreigners from entering the Kingdom as tourists but engaging in cybercrime, grey businesses, money laundering, gang activities, or being lured into forced work, as these activities pose serious threats to economic stability, social security, and public welfare.

The four measures include:

1. Tightening the screening of 90-day visa-exempt entries repeatedly used as visa runs without returning to one's home country.

Foreigners are capped at two visa runs; those with more visa runs without valid reasons will be denied entry at both international airports and border checkpoints. Since early 2025, the Immigration Bureau has refused entry to about 2,900 foreigners with similar patterns.

2. Blocking foreigners on border-area watchlists, such as in Mae Sot, Tak, areas known for scammer activity. Foreigners previously denied entry or pushed back at the Mae Sot–Myawaddy border will be denied entry again if they attempt to re-enter Thailand.

3. Tightening screening for extensions of stay by provincial immigration offices.

If a visa-run pattern is detected, the Immigration Bureau will refuse the extension request or cancel the visa, followed by deportation.

4. Cracking down on foreigners who overstay in accordance with overstay regulations.
These measures may result in slightly longer screening times for foreigners at international airports during peak hours, but screenings will not exceed 45 seconds per person, and waiting times will not exceed 40 minutes. To ease congestion, immigration offices at all international airports will fully staff all counters, while Thai nationals can use automatic gates for faster processing.

#3 sounds worrying (If you're not on a Long Term Visa) as "Deportation" is a lot worse than having a denied extension & leaving the country voluntarily but I can only see this applying to people on an ED Visa or maybe using Back-2-Back Tourist Visas extending each time.

Obviously the horse is working on Thai time :)

Joking aside, this was new to me so I thought I'd post it, if it's been discussed before then maybe the Mods could add a link to the previous thread & close this one down.

I'm getting married in April and did my second visa run of the year yesterday to get me to there.

Absolutely no issues whatsoever and told unlimited once again.

Even the visa run agencies are posting that they are unlimited.

Definitely not 2 a year.

Also there were people with huge overstays in the queue in front of me who still got 60 days. One guy 49 days overstay, paid his 20,000 and back on the van after signing some forms. ha.

The 2 per year limit is for Visa Exempt Entries. Not 2 Visa on Arrival Entries and Not 2 Tourist Entries.

I think everyone got a 60 day visa exempt. I didn't see any people on DTV or other visa. I guess they were cracking down in November but not anymore.

They are saying no limit for border runs on the visa run sites too.

Even the lady at border told my fiance could do again if we need.

But I definitely don't recommend it especially if you're planning to live here long term like me.

We have an agent ready to assist us in April when we get married and hopefully I never have to do it again.

Literally NO ONE on these van runs is issued an actual visa. That would be impossible.

Also should add. They had a list of nationalities not accepted anymore to do Visa runs. Such as Israel, Russia, Myanmar, Cambodia.

Also the border was only open for visa runners. Due to landslides no cars allowed cross to Malaysia. They purely opened for visa runs.

Landslides?? Where and when? There are like 10 different border crossings at Malay/Thai border, from Sungai Golok, to Sadao, to Satun? All closed because of landslides, really?

Wang Prachan/Wang Kelian.

The Malaysian side is closed to road traffic while they rebuild the road. That side has been closed since late November.

However they allow visa runs and local residents to cross.

I have no idea whatsoever about the other crossings, only Pedang Besar definitely opened but no same day visa runs allowed there

OK, that makes sense. It's the only really mountainous crossing. I biked that one a few times ages ago.

Interesting that it is the only one that allows same day border bounces.

Yes, the only one I'm aware of anyways:)

Back when I used the vans to go to Vientiane, I sometimes applied for a TR visa and sometimes a Non-B.

No-one was coming back in on Visa Exempt.

Has anyone been to Wang Prachan recently? Is it still okay for same-day bounce?

Will be going there this month for another VE.

Will update when I get back

And now everything is done through e-visa. It's literally impossible to get a visa same-day. And you cannot even apply until you're already in Laos.

your post is unclear, are the people you mention on tourist visas or visa exempt? there's a big difference.

You always had to wait until you got to the Thai consulate in Laos to apply, then return the next day to collect your passport and visa.

Yes absolutely fine.

Still the same, still 2,000

All visa exempt.

The border only does visa exempt at Wang Prachah as it's closed on the Malaysian side to traffic.

They are purely opened for visa runs.

Nobody could come with a tourist visa as they all come from Thailand

Well there's people who have a METV or DTV. They could obviously do a border run there as well, so what you should say is that they only facilitate border runs (not "only visa exempt" and certainly not "visa runs").

They are definitely opened for visa runs.

They don't care about DTV.

2,000 baht a pop. At least 500 people each day, a million baht a day, they won't be stopping them anytime soon, ha

Wang Prachan Border Run Update:

All went as usual, got my 2nd 60-day VE stamp for this year at the same price of 2000 baht.

Asked the most important question of how many more I can do this year, and was told they're not sure yet because they're waiting for the new government to introduce their immigration plans.

As of now, she told me I'd need to fly out and come back in after a few days for my next 60-day VE.

I'm assuming this is done by using a safe entry service.

Has anyone used a safe entry service for Hat Yai airport?

If so, how much does it cost, and which one did you use?

Thank you

Hopefully someone with first hand experience will post.

My guess is a No.

Agents can assist safe entry at the major airports.

So you have had 2 and already asking about a third.

Smacks of visa exempt entry abuse to me.

I've never heard of that, you may find that it doesn't exist. It wouldn't hurt to ask the agents who offer it elsewhere though.

The lady told us at Wang Prachan could come again if we need but told us not to try to extend, the thing is I'm getting married in April but the 30 day extension would help a lot. We called Hatyai immigration and they told us could definitely do one 30 day extension. But last time they changed their mind and put a cancelled stamp in my passport:).

So I wouldn't be certain.

Did u try to extend at Hatyai?

Also my fiance has the immigration ladies line at the border and in early April if you like we could message her to find out if more than 2 for certain.

Some "safe entry services" say every airport in Thailand but not absolutely sure Hatyai

You're right to doubt that. Entering at a land border, under the new rules they should not give you a 30-day extension. That might not be set in stone, but you really cannot count on getting one.

My buddy (UK passport) just did SE to BKK and paid 4500 baht. It was his 3rd straight VE entry but 1st of this calendar year for what it is worth. They told him not to fly in from Cambodia and to stay out out of Thailand for at least one full day before flying back. Don't have any information for you on whether there are agencies that do smaller airports or not.

I had a friend message the biggest visa run company in Phuket, KBV and they say can do more than 2 each year.

I wasn't sure if he could make my wedding in April as he already did 2 visa runs.

So definitely can do more than 2Screenshot_20260312-104950.jpg
