March 2Mar 2 Author Even though KBank pulled their branch out of Govt Complex, did they at least leave some ATM machines there? That would allow me to do the withdrawal & passbook update when I get there.

This is the second time I've gotten a new passport since I've been here and I don't recall any 'update phone number' step last time. The bank has my correct phone number already and now they have my new PP number. Won't they be able to make the connection? All to do with the issue discussed in this thread:https://aseannow.com/topic/1359645-does-your-sim-registration-and-bank-details-match/
March 6Mar 6 Author I just got home and through I'd provide you all with a few chuckles at my expense.7:30 - leave home, stop at local K-Bank to update passbook. Update machine says "magnetic stripe error - see a bank rep inside". Oh well, I guess I won't be showing up at immigration on time. I tell my Thai brother-in-law (who offered to drive me) not to worry because there's a branch at IT Square. So off we go to there.8:15 - Arrive at IT Square, discover that branch does not open until 11:00. Nice. This is the branch where (probably) all or most foreigner's accounts base at Government Complex got relocated to, and it's not available in the morning - the time when most of us will be needing it.8:30 - head back home, where I know a branch will be open at 8:30.8:40 - Brother-in-law's dashboard light comes on - danger, engine overheating. We pull into a parking lot and leave the car. Grab a taxi to head back home. Brother-in-law strikes up jovial chat with the taxi driver, telling him of our eventful morning. Taxi driver says we don't need to go all the way back home for a K-Bank, he knows where one is open nearby. "Are you sure it opens at 8:30?", we double check with the driver. Sure, he says. He often uses that branch. He drops us off at the K-Bank and we walk up to the front door to see that (as many of you have already guessed) it opens at 11:00. The taxi has already sped off by now.9:00 - Get a second taxi and insist on going back to starting point. "No need", says the taxi driver. There's a K-Bank just down the road that's open, he says. My brother-in-law trusts him but I pull out my Google Map app to double check. The map does seem to back up what the driver said, so off we go.9:20 - Arrive at the FOURTH (so far, but who's counting?) K-Bank. Indeed it's open. Taxi driver knows what we've been though and says he'll wait for us behind the bank. Bank lady gives me a new passbook, punching holes in the old one. I see the balance has been recorded in the new book, but there is no date next to it - just xxxxxx in the date field. I know immigration won't let that slide so I insist on yet another deposit and update - this time with a date stamp. Done.9:40 - Back in the taxi and on the way to immigration. Taxi driver has taken many foreigners to immigration Building B so he knows just where to go.10:10 - Arrive at immigration. Get queue number 78, with 43 people ahead of me.11:40 - (Finally something good happens) With lunch time fast approaching, it looks like I won't be called until after lunch. Just then, a guy approaches us saying that he's a visa agent and his client hasn't shown up yet. Would I like to swap my queue number 78 for his queue number 71? "Yes. Yes I would."11:55 - My number is called. We sit down with the officer and after a few minutes of paper shuffling, she notes that my visit to immigration last year was (according to the stamp in my passport) on April 10th. "So what's the problem?", I ask her. She says my passbook was updated last year on the 11th, not the tenth. "I can't process you", she said as she slumped back in her chair. I am at a loss to understand why this one day is significant. If anything, it means that I STILL had my bank balance a day after my visit to immigration. Meanwhile my brother-in-law is chatting with her and I can tell that he's on the edge of losing his temper. He looks at me and says "she said we can't continue".12:00 - The lunch whistle blows. Immigration officer keeps most of my papers and tells us to come back after lunch. I figure that's promising; I've not been completely rejected otherwise she would have pushed all the paperwork back at me.During lunch I have time to do some historical analysis. I notice the bank statement shows that I visited K-Bank at immigration on the 11th of last year, not the tenth as immigration was insisting, because my passport was stamped the tenth. How could that be? I opened up my Google Drive on my phone and looked at the dates on last year's paperwork - all dated the 11th. My guess was that the immigration officer stamped the wrong date in my passport last year.13:05 - Back at the officer's desk - there were two of them now. I asked my brother-in-law to tell them to check their system and see what it says about last year's extension. They got quiet for a moment and then looked at each other. The look was priceless - it said 'oh that's a good idea, why didn't WE think of that?' It turns out that indeed I was at immigration last year on the 11th and the officer had stamped the wrong date in my passport. It's incredible that they were on the verge of rejecting my application and they hadn't even thought to check their system yet. Did we get a "so sorry about that" from the officer? You can probably guess. The paperwork went though without a hitch from that point onward.14:00 - Received new passport back with extension and all stamps correct. Brother-in-law took this opportunity to scold the girl who hands back the passports, shaking his finger at her and telling her that she needs to be more careful and double check everything and on and on and all I'm thinking is that I'm glad I got my passport back before he started venting.I hope you all got more fun out of reading that adventure than I did having it. Just be aware that K-Bank at IT Square is useless if you need to stop there before you go to immigration. I plan on opening a new account at a bank that still has a presence in the immigration building.

March 6Mar 6 Author If only it were possible to "plan what not to do". We didn't actually plan to have an overheating car.

Made an appointment.2. Attended bank that opens at 8.30am and make 100b deposit.3.Obtain the 12 month bank statement + bank letter days prior to application.
