Foodpanda is gone.

Grab food is lineman now and only in Thai....

I really miss Foodpanda, I thought they did an outstanding job, and I was shocked to hear about the kind of money that they were losing annually. That had to be a result of gross mismanagement.

According to my my Ex-wife that runs a restaurant, they wanted so much in commission, so she stopped

I just finished eating a Grab delivery meal.

There are going to some restaurants that are only on Line Man or only on Grab. I haven't used LIne Man for a very long time but once in a while I check with them to see if there is anything I'm missing by not using them, So far, not really.

I pay a modest fee for some perks from Grab mostly discounts on deliveries.

I regularly use the EXPAT20 code which I think is for anyone that uses it that gets you a 15 percent discount up to 80 baht on 300 baht minimum orders.

Rarely there is a "jackpot" order. A while back I had three promotions on an already heavily discounted for all order from a restaurant so my bill was something like 150 and had the message on the bill that I had saved over 500 baht. Thai was so extreme that the driver noticed and was truly amazed, thought it was really cool, and congratulated me.

My impression is that Food Panda's strategy was to offer very generous promotions to customers with the goal of growing a big enough loyal market share that they could become profitable.

Reading between the lines I assumed he was saying that his favorite Indian place was now on Line and it's true Grab is much better with offering English menus than Line.

I am told the same thing about lineman, there is a restaurant close by that makes a great Tom Yum squid and it's 140 at the restaurant and 255 delivered through lineman. Yikes.

The customer markup IF ANY vs. at the restaurant varies very widely. The restaurant is forced to pay a cut to the service but how much they pass on is their choice. In your extreme example they are not going to have a lot of delivery sales.

I really wish Grab would include English in all the menus..

Another thing about the value of delivered food here even in cases where the restaurants are overcharging.

Time and money saved getting there yourself especially if the place is quite far and/or far away from where you would usually go for other things.

Whether you own your own vehicle or not.

Also no "need" to buy drinks or tip the waiter (though you may tip the driver as I do).

Nine times out of ten in Thailand delivery is a better value.

But is the quality as good?

Sometimes yes, sometimes no.

Some foods don't travel well especially fried foods.

Other foods arrive needing to be microwaved.

Some places invest in excellent packaging which holds heat (or cold) better than most, and some pack poorly.

For pizza you're better off ordering from a nearby place, etc.

OK, my TGF works as a chef, and opposite is car rentals place owned by an India man, when they have party I'm invited.

Homemade India food...ohhh so good.

Owner has a perfect English accent, so guess he lived in the UK

Wish I took an offer in Penang 20 years ago to learn to cook India food.

Penang has the most amazing food in the world, Malay,India,Chinese and mix of everything.

Used to be hotspot for visa run as they have a Thai consulate,

Agree, food in Penang is amazing.

Overall though I was more impressed with Singapore but obviously a more expensive place.
