Trump defends Iran war strategy amid growing criticism

The regime in Iran is utterly loathsome. It will never go away of it's own accord. Just not sure how it can be demolished without massive numbers of foreign military boots on the ground.

IRGC defections and an armed resistance. As for the latter it wouldn't surprise me the least if Mossad and the CIA are now or have been for some time moving to create this.

Why? What I find incredible is that when someone knows they have no response they immediately give a thumbs down. Of course there's always the puerile trolling, pivoting or diversion responses. I'm I correct in assuming your pretty quick with the old thumbs down emoji?

Mounting criticism. So what.

The only terrorist org in that part of the world is the IDF committing genocide. Hamas is about as much a terrorist entity as Mandela's ANC was. They are freedom fighters battling apartheid and oppression, like ANC was.

Right! So murder, rape, beheading, kidnapping, using children as human shields is what freedom fighters do is it? Sounds like terrorists to me.

Israel war strategy: We'll fight Iran to the last American.

I thought Russian started the war against Ukraine. Am I missing something.

I believe that's the EU strategy.

Why would Trump start a war to distract attention away from Bill Clinton?

I suppose Clinton answered all questions from the house committee but trump can't afford to be interviewed at all.

He certainly seemed to be rather happy seeing the pics of the girls he was with when shown them. BTW he did say that he saw or heard nothing to indicate Trump was involved in any wrong doing.

The "thumbs down" icon on ASEAN NOW (or any forum, really) should be because it signals disapproval without explanation. It's a lazy form of engagement — someone is dismissing a post without offering a reason, counterargument, or even a basic comment. Unlike a coherent reply, it adds nothing to the conversation, doesn’t promote dialogue, and often just reflects a knee-jerk reaction or personal dislike.

You could say the thumbs down icon is the digital equivalent of a grunt — no effort, no reasoning, and no contribution. If you've got a point, can you not express it? Otherwise, it's just drive-by disapproval.

Whatever the issues that influenced the timing of the war, and whatever the early setbacks and unintended consequences, once a democratic country starts on this path, the citizens should support it until the threat to their country is removed.

Pushing back and allowing anti war demonstrations and internal Islamic influence is a recipe for failure.

History has shown us that unfinished business leads to long term pain - WWII, Korea, Vietnam, Iraq, Afghanistan. Fading support at home prevented a positive outcome.

Good advice I was given years ago; "it's easier to stay out than get out". But once you're in, finish the job.

No reports of Iran ever doing anything like this. No reports either of the 160 school girls neutralized by US-Israel of attending a school that was anything other than a school.

On the other hand, we have ISIS - see US supported Mr. al-Sharaa currently leading Syria - the West's mortal enemy till they agreed to fight Assad.

And IDF which is guilty of all of the above, except they don't behead with knives, they shoot civilians from a distance.

Iran supported the Hamas war against Israel. In your post you compared Hamas to the ANC. BTW, the ANC was know for Necklacing.

In 1986, Winnie Madikizela-Mandela made a this statement: “With our boxes of matches and our necklaces we shall liberate this country.”

Hamas is a nasty group of people who rape, and use kids as human shields.

Iran is not know for treating its people well. Have you read about the acid attacks in Iran?

By Babak Dehghanpisheh BEIRUT (Reuters) - It is a question all Iranians are asking: who is stalking the streets of Isfahan, throwing acid into women's faces? The attacks - there have been at least four in the busy city in central Iran in recent weeks - appear aimed at terrorizing women who dare to test the boundaries of the Islamic dress code. The crimes coincided with the passage of a new parliamentary bill that allows private citizens to enforce "morality" laws.

Trump defends Iran war strategy amid growing criticism

Trump lost the war the second he assassinated the Supreme Leader of the Persian Shai religion. Making a martyr out of Ayatollah Khamenei and his family who had chosen to stay in their family residences instead of hiding. Westerners can't grasp the significance of that act - to CHOOSE martyrdom - because most Westerners are afraid to die. As soon as missiles began to fly, Bibi Netayahu boarded a plane for Europe to save his own skin. Sucks to be the residents of Israel. All Westerners like those on this forum can do is mock Khamenei's sacrafic without understanding that that act by Khamenei just galvanized the majority of Shia Islam population globally to engage in global Jihad. The US lost this war in the first salvo of missiles hitting the Khamenei compound killing him an his family as he made no attempt to seek safety - he knew he was going to die for a cause greater than himself. I respect that.

There isn't a single person in the Trump administrator who would deliberately sacrifice themselves - these people hide in safety and lead from behind like the cowards they are. And what they accomplish was to catalyze the Shia resistance which will now push the US out of the Middle East. I'm not going to debate the Islam-hating MAGA ideologues. Time... Watch what happens over time. Israel and the US lost the war in the first 5 minutes of the war. Then through their arrogance and hubris, they completely underestimate the engineering prowess of the Persian people. And that will be the downfall of the West. Anything that ends the never-ending aggression by the West is a welcome change for the better imho. And after this adventurism blows up in the Trump administration's face, Mr. Trump and his cabinet may well lose their positions of power due to incompetence. Stay tuned.

In the meanwhile, fabricate reality and make things up about how great America is doing in the Gulf region and abroad. It's humorous.

Nice job Donnie. The Dow dropped 1,200 points today, and oil is up $14 a barrel in the last 2 days. You said you were going to bring prices down for the average American but all I see is a lot of hot smoke and broken promises. The War President continues with his sabotage of the economy. Will it ever end, or does he simply want to collapse the entire world economy? For someone with a rational mind it's really hard to figure out what his true intentions are, as this was very obviously a war of choice and not something that was required at this time. Granted he's probably not making the decisions, he's likely just a puppet being operated by the deep state, they wanted a compliant and gullible dunce, and they sure got one with Don the Destroyer.

Brent crude oil, the international benchmark, topped $84 a barrel, up 8% Tuesday following a 6% spike Monday. WTI crude jumped 8% to above $77 a barrel after a 6% jump as well on Monday.

Iranian Revolutionary Guard commander said the Strait of Hormuz — the world’s most vital transit route for crude oil — is closed and that Iran would set ablaze ships attempting the route, Reuters reported, citing Iranian media.

Don and his band of goons would like to see this war end quickly. Iran seems to want the opposite. They want to cause as much pain as possible to the US and it's allies. Likely something the dim witted amateurs did not consider, in their minor league planning of this operation.

The Islamic Republic of Iran’s first priority is to survive. To do that, its leaders will want to drive up the cost of the war for President Trump — in terms of American casualties, energy costs and inflation — to try to persuade him to declare victory and go home.

Faced with the overwhelming firepower of the United States and Israel, diplomats and analysts say, Iran is working to enlarge the battlefield from its own territory to the broader region. The goals are to damage oil and gas infrastructure in neighboring countries, shut the Strait of Hormuz to shipping and curtail air traffic — all to disrupt the economies of the Persian Gulf and drive up global energy prices and inflation. Iran will also be trying to exhaust the number of expensive missile interceptors held by its enemies.

“The war has become a test of wills and stamina,” said Vali Nasr of the Johns Hopkins School of Advanced International Studies in Washington. “Iran is facing qualitatively superior militaries, so the strategy is to test their will by expanding the battlefield, complicating the war and increasing the danger to the world economy.”

The strategy is not complicated.

Ali Vaez, the Iran director of the Brussels-based think tank International Crisis Group, said, “The Iranians want to spread the pain as much as they can, regardless of the cost to themselves and burned relations with their neighbors, hoping to create enough opposition to the war to compel President Trump to back off.”

Matthew Kroenig, a former U.S. defense official under Republican presidents who studies Mr. Trump’s foreign policy, agreed. Mr. Trump “is skeptical of long, drawn-out military campaigns” and could be satisfied with a number of outcomes, including the Venezuela model, he said.

“So I think they could go home almost at any time and declare this a success,” he said. Right now, he added, “I think the strategy is more about what they want to avoid than about exactly what they want to achieve.”

This is clearly demonstrated by those who have added a "thumbs" down to this post - I guess they think they are being witty, when in fact they are just being predictable and showing the level at which they contribute.

TRump's attacks on Iran have nothing to do with saving te people – your picture. BTW, it has nothing to do with Iran. - Trump is all about oil market domination.

Ironic as oil is an archaic measurement - what really countrs is water and the US is fast running out of that.

Every time Trump opens his mouth he has a different excuse for this illegal war, a different objective a different prediction on how long it will last.

He has no plan.

Another illegal forever war, American blood and treasure pished away in the Middle East for absolutely no gain to America or Americans.

CNN host Kasie Hunt was visibly taken aback on Tuesday after she played an expletive-laden montage of MAGA figures criticizing President Donald Trump's war in Iran.

#

Hunt played the montage on "The Arena" on Tuesday, which included commentary from MAGA radio personality Megyn Kelly, Blackwater founder Erik Prince, and former Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-GA), who cited her falling out with Trump over the Jeffrey Epstein files as her reason for leaving Congress in January.

In the montage, Kelly said she has "serious doubts" about the Iran strikes, even though they killed dictator Ayatollah Ali Khamenei. Prince said the strikes were not in America's best interests, and Greene said the strikes show it's "time for America to rip the Band-Aid off and have a serious conversation about what the f--- is happening in our country right now."

Anchor blindsided as CNN plays unedited montage of MAGA's profane criticism of Trump

The camera panned back to a stunned Hunt after the montage played.
