Fuel Shortage Fears Trigger Mae Sai Rush

Featured Replies

Residents of Mae Sai district, Thailand, and Myanmar’s Tachileik province are experiencing increased activity at local fuel stations as fears of a potential suspension of fuel exports grow. Following tensions in the Middle East, drivers are crossing the Thai–Myanmar Friendship Bridge to stockpile fuel. This influx has seen more than half of the vehicles at petrol stations in Mae Sai bearing Myanmar license plates, leading Thai locals to join the queues to secure their supply.

Amidst the rush, two petrol stations on the Mae Sai outskirts have temporarily shut down after running out of fuel, with deliveries expected within two days. Central stations claim to have adequate stocks. Initial confusion arose when exporters in Chiang Saen’s Golden Triangle paused shipments due to rumors of a government-ordered suspension. However, stranded oil tankers resumed activity upon clarification.

The Energy Ministry, in a statement, denied issuing any ban on fuel exports, affirming it is closely monitoring the Middle East situation. An acting senior official stressed that while the Department of Energy Business is evaluating potential impacts, no formal decision has been made. Clarity from the ministry helped alleviate immediate tensions, allowing oil movements to recommence.

Looking forward, the Department of Energy Business will continue to assess the international situation and prepare for adjustments as necessary. Any changes in export policy will be formally communicated to ensure transparency and to mitigate further disruptions, reported Khaosod.

MB & Ebike are topped up also. Wait till I run car down to 60%, maybe today. When topped up, we'll be hoarding 60+ kWh, and enough for almost a week of home use, without ACs, and still have 2 mode

Ref. No. Thor 1018.1/6 0814

Mae Sai District Office

Phahonyothin Road, Chonburi 57130

March 3, 2013

subject

Public announcement regarding the fuel situation in Mae Sai District.

To: Heads of government departments, heads of state enterprises, mayors of local administrative organizations, all sub-district chiefs, all village heads, and gas station operators in Mae Sai District.

As observed, a large number of people in Mae Sai district have come out to refuel their vehicles.

Mae Sai District has received a request for cooperation from the Governor of Chiang Rai Province in resolving the fuel shortage problem in Mae Sai District, Chiang Rai Province, as follows:

Gas stations are requested to prioritize the allocation of fuel sales to Thai citizens for agricultural use, daily travel, and transportation as usual, in order to prevent short-term shortages.

Selling fuel by filling it into other containers is strictly prohibited. In cases where it must be used for agriculture or construction, please register the name/surname, the activity in which it will be used, and the quantity.

Foreign nationals are required to register their name, surname, activity, and quantity of fuel purchased each time. If the quantity purchased exceeds what is necessary and without justification, the sale may be reduced or refused.

Please refuse to sell fuel to foreigners who refuel more than once a day.

In the event that fuel in Mae Sai District runs out or is insufficient, the public is requested to consider parking in nearby districts, which have sufficient fuel to provide services.

If hoarding or unreasonable refusal to sell is discovered, immediately notify the Chiang Rai Provincial Energy Office to investigate and resolve the issue promptly, including taking legal action to the fullest extent of the law.

Therefore, I have come to consider taking action.

Best regards

(Mr. Warayut Khombun) (District Chief of Mae Sai)

Filled up my electric car last night.

Filling up my electric MTB right now.

Worried the sun might stop shining!

MB & Ebike are topped up also. Wait till I run car down to 60%, maybe today. When topped up, we'll be hoarding 60+ kWh, and enough for almost a week of home use, without ACs, and still have 2 modes of transport, if car being used for house.

You never know, may have a week long solar eclipse, since earth is flat, or all those chem trails blocking the sun.

Maybe good timing getting my solar installation, now looking at car!

MG ZS EV vs ICE, cost to travel 350 kms

Solar (excess) ... ฿0

PEA @ ฿5 ... ฿231.5

CS @ ฿8 ... ฿370.4

91 @ ฿30 ... ฿750

That's great to hear your ok and as for your feelings to those majority petrol car drivers your in deep sh..t ha ha..

Well if it get's really bad you better make sure your precious car is safe at night.😅

This is nearly an annual event in the uk. OPEC arae about with barrel prices, then there’s an incident and price go sky high.

That ship has just left the refinery, and would have been circling the globe for maybe 18 months

Then you factor in Sid and Doris Bonkers, who sit in queue for 4 hours and then maybe put two gallons in.

People drive past see the queues and join it and spend the time trying to crack the new apprentice in accounts

Let us call it the Trump effect. The world pays the price for his war-mongering ways.

Panic is hardly called for except perhaps in border areas. Assuming your car fuel tank capacity is about 50 liters and assume the price of gasoline increased by 5 baht per liter, you would save about 250 baht. While, I'm all for getting a discount, I don't really see a need to queue up for half an hour or more at a Bangkok petrol station to hoard gasoline. The government has promised the price isn't going to be increased and I'm sure the government will keep their promise.

Travel by water-buffalo is most efficient, and calming.

We topped up this afternoon. The price at the local gas station hasn't gone up at all. Give it time.

I'm assuming you're Australian.

Poorest education system in the western world.

I knew the goofball, lightweight failure president would not bring down prices in America, but who knew that he would raise prices around the world?

A 👎 ... really cheesy

Surely your brain can put a few words together, and express some thoughts ...

... cost to have solar installed

... gas & oil cost soon too high for electric company to provide CS, so restricted to local driving

A 👎 for simply stating facts, no opinion in the post. Actually a positive, since petrol prices haven't budged, unlike probably elsewhere, as any news of middle east conflict results in immediate rise, as crude already up, and nothing has happened yet.

Sniff of negativity and ...

What are you on about man? Lifepo4 is a hell of a drug.

Solar makes perfect sense here and is dirt cheap compared to back home. I'd go full electric everything if I owned a plantation and had lackeys to do my bidding. It would be a modern, solar powered version of 'Roots'. Plenty of women who look like Mama Kizzy around Pattaya these days.
