easier at a local immig office or at a thai consulate outside thailnd?

Featured Replies

Is it easier to extend a visa based on marriage at a local immigration office? Or is it easier to just let the visa expire, go to a nearby country and apply for new visa based on marriage at a thai consulate there?

The main reason I ask is because I'm under 50 and work online, and it seems that can be something of a gray area in Thailand. So I'd rather avoid face-to-face interaction about that subject.

Are you crazy.

If married to Thai obtain Non O based on marriage + ongoing annual extensions.

The financial requirements are minimal.

Don't understand your thread

you don't extend a visa you obtain an extension of the stay until date that the visa gave you on entry, you could do a one year extension at local immigration office for being married to a Thai national, you could also do a 60 day visit Thai wife extension, all extension are 1,900thb

A fresh visa application in your home country, or in fact some nearby embassies would only give you a 90 day permission to stay stamp, you would then be back to square one above

Excellent summary Steve.

Why anyone married to a Thai would look for side step amazes me.

When annual extension not difficult

When it comes to showing I have 400k in the bank, is it sufficient to just download a PDF statement from my Bangkok Bank app?

Or do I need a tangible paper statement from a branch of Bangkok Bank?

You need a statement issued and stamped by the bank, as well as a letter from the bank stating that you are the owner of the account and what the balance is.

If you have not held the 400,000 in the bank for at least 4 months at the time you request the letter, then Bangkok Bank will not issue the letter until you sign something that allows them to freeze those funds in your account for 4 months from the date the letter is issued.

Bangkok Bank is the only bank with this stupid policy. Recommend finding a new bank ASAP for future immigration matters.

Yes.

So you require 3 things from bank.

Bank Statement (not from app)

Bank Letter. This shows you are owner of account and balance at time of issue.

Note: BBL may freeze the 400k in the account if funds have not been seasoned for 4 months (nutcase policy)

Finally obtain bank book update on day of application.

The Letter and Statement can be obtained days prior to application.

I love the new way of getting visa. In the old days, I saw many frightened people with shaking hands waiting in line to submit their visa applications at the consulate. One mistake in a document could put them in a very awkward situation. They obviously couldn't return to Thailand to get the missing documents signed and stamped. And the consulate staff could ask for anything.

Nowadays, you can ask your wife in Thailand to get you any missing documents, scan them, and send them to you.

The complete absence of stress and the ability to quickly resolve any document issues without leaving the couch has made a huge difference.
