No one could discount that as a cause after seeing the picture, although I couldnt tell you what type of warhead would do that. But it looks like a steel plate blown outward in a directed fashion, so it could even be from a bomb attached to a surface.

However the explosion undoubtably came from inside. Id like to see more pics. Get my old explosives brain back in gear

The justification is what Iran have already stated, they have been attacked by the USA and clearly stated a while ago they would attack as many ships as possible which passes nearby, how much clearer could it have been?

What we should be asking is why the ship was there in the first place.

It is a bit like people wandering about in a city where the air raid sirens are ringing out stating a bombing raid is taking place eg London WW2.
