Lost Passport

Featured Replies

Hi everyone

I seem to have lost my passport, I am on a Retirement extension, expire October this year, and have a copy of my passport on my mobile.

Cannot find it anywhere, lost it while travelling in Thailand, as had it with me, needed my passport due to hotel bookings.

Any advice what steps need to take, anyone else lost or misplaced there passport and what did you do ?

Thanks

Report your lost passport immediately to your nearest U.S. Embassy or Consulate.

I am From England

The website suggests contacting the Embassy. Hopefully, someone from England will respond.

Here is the UK embassy contact information in Thailand:

First file a police report. Then apply for a replacement via VFS in Bangkok or Chiang Mai.

Make sure you cancel the passport.

If you have time apply for a new passport at VFS Bangkok R Chang Mai, if you do not have time, then you can get an ETDemergency travel document form the embassy

https://www.gov.uk/world/thailand

The Emergency Travel document is only good for returning to the UK. The OP will need a new passport for his Extension in October.

A very wise move to have made a copy of the passport, in advance.

However,, after making a copy, then best to upload the images to Google DRIVE.

Also, keep one copy on the phone, if it was not lost at the same time the passport went missing.

In addition, it is possible to just go to one of those antiquated copy shops and get a hard copy of the passport in a minute or two,

And then keep the hard copy in a drawer.

I am glad that I have no desire to travel, these days, due to the potential for loss of documents, and for many other reasons.

Once the passport is lost, then much work and worry entails.

Can't you get Miss Moneypenny to sort you out a new one?

Will he need to show up at immigration with the (regular) police report?

That is why I never use my passport for hotels or domestic flights, I always present my Thai drivers license as it is always accepted and has my passport number on it.

How can a hotel file a TM30 without the passport?

Is this the correct order?

  1. Get a police report.

  2. Cancel your passport on UK Gov website.

  3. Apply for new passport with VFS.

(I assume you need to send the police report with the application.)

Not sure it's necessary to cancel your passport. Yes, bring a copy of the police report when you submit the application at VFS.

Nah, not necessary as an extra step. That will be automatic as you file your request for new passport together with police report.
