It is not a good area to move if you have actual depression, especially seasonal, as those gray, dreary days can get to be to much. Too drastic I don't like, the rainy season here for instance. I'm used to the heat, as Texas gets really hot and stays that way a long time, but being able to spend time outside is always easier in sunny skies than constant rain. It does have 4 seasons, even though Spring and fall are quite short. New jersey was too cold too long, which is one reason I moved to Texas.

I'm a Philly boy, and only August was usually the only uncomfortable month for me. For some reason, NJ seemed to have a bit harsher winter than right next door to Philly. Thought Philly weather was almost perfect, with nice change of seasons.

Just when the heat or bitter cold was getting to you, it changed. Did a winter at Detroit, and that was brutal, wind & snow. Try parking a plane, when the snow is coming down sideways, and you can barely see the wing tips.

Spent a whole year in FL, and the heat, and storms when the hurricanes passed by was enough for me. The heat in Memphis, where I spend last 5 yrs, was brutal, and easily a whole month at 100°F. Go outside, work a wave of flights, come back in soaked in sweat, change your shirt, then wait for next wave 🙄

Seriously, if I came here the first time in March, and on the Gulf, I would not have returned. Without my daughter, I wouldn't have remained in TH. 25 yrs, and March & April are still brutal to me, and last year was great, rains came early. Hoping for a repeat.

My brother did SEA in March & April 2023, SQ, Nam & Cambo, and that close and decided, it was too much, heat was killing him 🙄 Had the time to visit, but said, F'it, we'll come back next year. Came back Feb 2025, and lucked out, hardly any air pollution for the 2 weeks he was here, as I told him, bad month to come. Loved it, and now has the OMG, you have to go tourist mindset, same as his friends that recommended it.

Besides, me & family being here, of course. Only took him 20 yr, since last time I was in the states, to visit. Doubt if I'll see my other 2 brothers before we crap out.

Montana is amazing, truly beautiful and pristine.

I was (still am) considering a similar move. But for me, southern Alberta, somewhere in the Lethbridge area looks pretty good. At least 6 months of the year, anyway.

IMHO a hybrid retirement is the way to go- half year in Thailand and half in a more familiar environment. The plan now is a half year in Japan and half in Thailand, at least as long as my in-laws are still around. After that, who knows? I do like my place in Thailand, but being somewhere that I can speak the language and understand what is going on is also comfortable.

New Jersey's August was the dog days, muggy and hot, much like Houston is. I was near San Antonio, more inland and drier, but it was still hot. Over 100 degrees F. for a month at times.

I went to Michigan to pick up my kids in the winter, and it was very cold, but not as cold as I was hunting in Alberta in November one year. The first day was 40F, then it went down lower every day, until one day was -39. I was eating an apple waiting for the deer, which never showed as the snow was too deep for them to navigate, and before I finished the apple the other side was frozen. Not fun no matter how many insulated clothes you have on, which is a main reason I moved to Texas from New Jersey. Too cold too long.

I don't plan on relocating anywhere else. I've been here (Thailand) for about 25 years now, and still love it.

However, if something changed here, and I thought I ought to move, my "Plan B' is moving to somewhere in the Aleutian Islands in Alaska, which are the islands that curve upward from the bottom of Alaska towards Russia. I think they would be a good place to be as Global Warming intensifies, and I like the idea of living somewhere in the woods.

Outstanding area of natural beauty - Go for it...

....will you live in a remote area in the wilderness without internet ??

Asking for a friend...

Maybe you've been away too long - the internet is readily available where there is blue sky....and guess what, ironically, Montana is known as Blue Sky Country. Starlink costs a bit more than fiber from TrueMove, but internet in the wilderness is no longer a problem. Plus, many use only solar to power their wifi/Starlink router.

What about health care, internet, and cost of living, living on those islands.

Sounds good, but how much more expensive than Thailand would it be.

And, I bet Thai people are far more pleasant to live with than those people living on deserted islands.

Also, you might develop island fever.

Montana seems better.

Being on an island means more stable temperatures.

However, are you unaware that the RATE OF SURFACE TEMPERATURE WARMING is at its absolute highest in the Arectic regions?

The rate is about triple or more compared to temperate zones.

You can check the surface temperature predictions, during the next 20 years, for those islands compared to other parts of Earth.

Used to dream about a town in eastern Oregon. Still go there on road trips when back stateside.. However as a women who grew up nearby, told me long ago, 'it will snow on the forth of July'. Six to seven months of cold weather. Snowshoeing, cross country skiing, somehow G, I don't see you doing that, Montana or Ontario. Best to just hunker in your bunker, internet box, like you do now.

Joseph?

I went to a one room school house outside of Vida in Ritchy county. I have no desire to go back there.

You can rent the Kaczynski cabin.

No way.

According to the FBI, the guy was saving bottles of urine in the cabin.

Too stinky, even for me.

Dear Folks,

Have you recently become a bit disillusioned by your time in Asia?

I am not saying that I have, particularly.

However, as I age like a fine wine, I have found that, during the past few years, I have this yen to return to my roots in Montana.

Must be something relevant to my need to return to nature, and forget about Pattaya, and the bar scene which originally drew me here.

image.png

I have nothing against the bar scene, but, now, I am too old....and...

Truth be told, these girls have aged too much, just as have I.

So this is why I am thinking about a better Plan-B, which is Montana.

I do not want to die without returning to a FEELING of CLEANLINESS, while roaming in Wyoming, instead of roaming from bar to bar, to bar.

Here is what I am talking about, actually:.....

image.png

I want to get free.

I want to breathe clean air.

I want to shed my obsession with bar girls and liquor.

I want to die clean as the driven snow in a place of TRUE Beauty.

I am tired of places where I need worry about whether or not....the beauty might just be due to....

Someone putting lipstick on a pig.

I know purity when I see it.

Sure, I can go back.

But, I wish I need not.

Shirley we can find the beauty of Montana in Thailand....

Can't we?

Best regards,

Gamma
