Hi,

I'll be visiting Thailand, Singapore and Malasyia in the next couple of weeks and was thinking of getting my early Xmas shopping done and out of the way while im on the tour! I'll be in Bangkok for a week and would like to know if there are any real bargains. i really want to get a Wii and Ps3 for my younger relatives but they cost a fortune back in the UK (well for me anyway). Any ideas on prices????

Can I also ask if its easy to post these back through UPS, Fedex etc or is the postage/shipping system completley different over there?

Are there any hidden cost issues I need to worry about such as VAT? etc.

Thanks

At MBK Wii 15,500 with 10 free games chipped to play everything, Playstation 3 18,500.

Chipped means you can play the copied games that are found in Asia. But they work fine with original games as well. Manuals will be in English and sometimes other languages as well.

The most you will save is VAT - but some High Street shops like Dixons frequently have promotions, so really it's probably not going to be a significant savings - plus you have different plugs if you buy in Bangkok (Singapore and Malaysia use UK plugs so you're ok there).

The only other way to save would be to get the chipped machines and the pirated games.

Postage will depend on weight. No way to easily tell what that will cost, as each package is different and often bundled as value packs.

Chipped means the unit has had a modified chip installed to let it play the pirated games available here. You'll pay more for one here than in the US, chip mod expense not included. Can you even find a Wii here? I'm being told that there is a shortage, not expected to meet demand until until late next year at the earliest.

you want to post them to UK? i´m afraid you´ll have a problem with the customs, especially if they are chipped. it could well be that you saving ends here :/

I saw all over saphan lek... Wiis for 7,000 baht. Chipped. Definitely no shortage of them.

7,000??????? Are you sure?

Maybe he's getting it mixed up with the N64. :o

If they really have them for 7k I'll pick up several of them however.
