Go to the Saphan Thaksin bridge. Buy a ticket and head for Nonthaburi (dont buy the day pass for 100 Baht, just the normal ticket 15 Baht)

From Nonthaburi have something to eat or strall around the market there. From there on go back to the pier and take a Boat to Koh Kret. Its an Island not far of Nonthaburi famous for its pottery. On that Island is lots to do and see(weekdays very quiet though). If you like you can organize a boat tour around the island for Baht 400.-

It will fill the day. It involves lots of walking though.

Or how about going down to the crocodile farm and the Ancient City in Samut Prakarn ... take the tollway out to Bangna then head south on Srinakarin ...

That koh kred looks inviting...what sort of time should i give myself for starting from Suk??

It take a little over 1 hour from Saphan Thaksin to Nonthaburi.. as from there just 10 minutes with the next boat.

I would second the vote for the ancient city. Leave the crocodile farm to those who like to witness animal cruelty. Ancient city is fabulous and as the weather is getting cooler you could take a picnic and rent some cycles. Take along ID and get Thai entry price too. :o

If you drive, go out to do a dolphin-watching trip at Bang Pakong. It's well within driving distance from Bangkok. The boat will take you down the river and right out into the river mouth. A lot of things to see along the river too. The dolphins should have arrived by now and they stay through to about February/March, I think.

Depending what you class as not too expensive, there's a one day train trip on weekends that will take you to Kanchanaburi, the bridge and a waterfall for about 500 Baht each.

The train leaves Hualampong station early morning and arrives back around 7 pm. It stops twice for sightseeeing on the way to the waterfall, you have a couple of hours for lunch and a swim if you want then a stop in Kanchanaburi on the way back.
