In a vain attempt to get this back on topic and fully aware that I will probably regret asking this question but which members who have been banned either recently or in past should be reinstated? I am interested to read not just a list of names but also a reasoned argument why each person cited should be given a reprieve.

I am not promising that anyone on the list will be given a return ticket but the mods are taking an interest in this topic so who knows, stranger things have happened and probably will again.

CB who is heading off to bed after rolling this grenade into the pit.

Alright then CB. Back on topic :o

OK, I'll start. I don't profess to know the politics behind why they where banned but 2 posters off the top of my head, who i liked where The_Moog. This thread was great, he had a great sense of humour (allbeit black sometimes) but i don't really ever recall him stepping out of line too much.......but obviously he did :Dhttp://www.thaivisa.com/forum/index.php?sh...t=0&start=0

I also liked Bkkmadness. For a variety of reasons but he was a top poster and i thought he contributed lots to the forum.

These are just 2 off the top of my head and I've not really thought deeply about reasoned argument, just a "gut feel" type of thing. I'll have a think over night.

In a vain attempt to get this back on topic

And hopefully keep it there.

and fully aware that I will probably regret asking this question after

Yup, I guess you will

rolling this grenade into the pit.

I can feel the shrapnel now.

However, I also liked BKK, but unfortunately couldn't put up a reasoned argument for return and I also do not know the cause of his demise, so over to others on that score.

My first choice would be the The Gent, I know this will come as a surprize, because not only did we cross swords on many occasions in the visa forum, but he had a habit of rubbing people up the wrong way.

He was very good at spotting Trolls, my personal bugbear, and I remember one particular time when he exposed a couple in extraordinary good time, which can only be good for the forum.

His knowledge on immigration matters, particularly in relation to the UK and Ireland, is exemplary, the premier reason for the existence and origin of Thai Visa, I believe, before the sub-fora copulated and manifested itself in to a myriad of diversified multiplicity. Apart from that he helped me with concise and uncomplicated wording of a difficult matter regarding the inconsistencies and incompetent handling of the B.E, so I am biased.

He would often make fun of serial fools who would post inane nonsense of trivia, with oblique messages of ridicule, that often would have me in stitches, if only because the unfortunate poster had no idea he was the butt of the response and secondly, because few could understand the wording including me, so turning what could be described as a negative in to a positive, we all learnt a lot of new words, if never to repeat.

So to recap, the Gent was excellent in the Visa sub-forum, the Genesis of Thai Visa, very funny if at times a little over the top, knowledgeable when it mattered and above all he was Irish, I can only surmise, from the other side of the fence from my good self, due to his postings on certain criteria, but hey, I am in forgiving mood, how about you. :o

Talk about a reversal of fortune, I an totally against the reinstatement of Banned members.

I am off to have a Single Malt, a very good Single Malt mind you, I have a feeling this could get messy :D

Good luck

Moss

Er, moss, The Gent aint banned!

Are you sure?

I must be on the wrong forum, I am sure he is banned over there!

Or have I started on the Single Malt early, I guess I have!

What Forum am I on?

BKK, get off you are banned from here!

Mara :o

The Gentleman - SAS and Soldier of Fortune - certainly was and everyone called him "The Gent". :o

I wouldn't mind seeing Jetty back. I know she rubbed some people the wrong way - unfortunately, that included a mod or two - but she can be a valuable contributor and may drag back a few members who are not banned but not posting in this particular forum anymore. Any thoughts/other suggestions?

as you were asking....I just made a search for banned members, sorted by number of posts. On the first 60 entries some names came to mind I would not mind having around again:

The Gentleman Scamp: a bit of a drama queen but also entertaining. He gave lots of advise on teh forum as well!

Jet Gorgon: Never understood why she got banned. Not that she contributed much of value, but had a high entertainment value.

Ice Maiden: For obvious reason... :o

Artisan: I was a bit shocked to see he was banned...never saw this one crossing any line before...or did I look at the wrong place? Or do I confuse him with someone else?

buriramboy: I remember very well how he got banned in the first place, basically he had an argument with a mod and didn't back off. A bit stupid, but pulling the plug on him was overdone IMHO.

Not banned, but not able to post due to high warning level (from what I heard) is The Donz. Not that he contributed anything valuable, but his entertainment value is unsurpassed!

Yes I think Scampy would probably come back, if given the opportunity. As I said, I think that others could follow as well. But are we doing this the right way? Seems we are getting a bit close to the wire with the way we are tackling this...

The Gentleman Scamp, The Moog, BKK Madness and Donz would all be good to have back, simply for the reason that they made this forum much more entertaining.

I might be wrong but if i remember rightly, I thought Scampy asked the mods to ban him :o

I think that's right BoobieJangles.

I agree with Dantilley's choices.

Donz was no threat to anybody, and as long as you knew it, his trolling and ridiculous tales were light-hearted banter.

The Gentleman Scamp is/was certainly a large contributor to all sorts of entertainment here, and the resident drama queen. I am not so consistent, nor as eloquent in my dramatisations.

The Moog, definately a loss to not have the Moog around. It'd be like losing Boon Mee. Just a TV.com legend. (speaking of which, where is Boon Mee?)

BKK Madness was one of my favourite posters here. He's got all the qualities of about ten current bedlamites put together.

With regards to other members:

Thetyim, was always friendly, helpful - to me at least. If somebody had a question he'd often search the web for an answer - and failing that would come up with any sort of answer, at least. :o

IceMaiden - Not really. Maybe when she's a bit older. I added her to MySpace a couple of years ago, and had to Remove her cos she kept sending all her friends junk and emotional drama queen sh1t. (And it wasn't entertaining, like Scamp)

I Was surprised to see Acquiece got banned.

How the heck was BACKPACK Thailand Banned???? He was just a nice chap - lived in Kanchanaburi.

Buriramboy was another guy I liked on here.

Who here remembers Lacoste?? Lying scumbag bastard.

RDN is the other one who was good to have around.

And finally, the "Not-banned-but-never-seen-anymore" Members I'd like to see more of are:

The Pre-Mod totster. He's doin' a fine job Mod-ing but he was way more fun before.

And where oh Where is Daleyboy????

Britmaveric

Thomas Merton

Butterfly

Chuchok

Bambiina

In most cases - from the names I mention here - they are all-round genuine blokes/lass who tell it like they see it and don't beat around the bush.

Yes I think Scampy would probably come back, if given the opportunity. As I said, I think that others could follow as well. But are we doing this the right way? Seems we are getting a bit close to the wire with the way we are tackling this...

Ping thanks for the voice of caution but this is in response to something I asked :o

If the responses are kept to the question of who and why not which moderator did it or the process of moderation which is of course not allowed, the thread can continue.

You will notice that I have not made any comments on any of the members who have been proposed for the same reason.

regards

CB

The Gentleman - SAS and Soldier of Fortune - certainly was and everyone called him "The Gent". :o

Two wholly and separate Identities and individuals, I am afraid.

Moss

Who here remembers Lacoste?? Lying scumbag bastard.

He has surfaced elsewhere and I remember the reason for his removal, or I think I do, because it spread over about 5 fora and was really nasty could be classed as defamitory, I wonder if he got any appeals lodged by other members here, I think not.

Moss

Well. I'm just going to jump on the band wagon and say that because of my realtive noobie status I haven't had the pleasure of dealing with most of the "legends" who have gotten the boot.

My loss or tv loss? Who knows, but from what I can make out, people are not banned or suspended to year 2070 without reasonably good reasons with regards to the longeveity of this web board.

BKK Madness was one of my favourite posters here. He's got all the qualities of about ten current bedlamites put together.

But, was thinking too high and might of himself by trying to push his URL in his sigh.... once his web-page came up and running...in our face "here is my Weg-site". I did say so on a post in the Forum Support...... Also posted rubbish about Mods........ and Rules etc...at the end. Had time to conform to the rules and fair play Mods did give him a very long rope IMO. Shame on you BKK :D we all miss you, but .......... you did it to yourself. Why :o

---------------------------------------------------------------------------

How the heck was BACKPACK Thailand Banned???? He was just a nice chap - lived in Kanchanaburi.

K.O. Please give me a break will you, read his last post calling our "Dear Knees" a "Tosser". BTW also his mates pinched one on me photos for thier web-page and I mentioned this on "ThaiVisaDotCom" and next day the photo was gone, great work "ThaiVisaDotCom" thank you for that. Got a very nasty e-mail from them after that BTW, so to BackPacker ............................................. :bah: . Hint to all = do not call an Admin or Mod as Tosser :D

---------------------------------------------------------------------------

RDN is the other one who was good to have around.

Yes, miss the old Roger a lot, well I do. :D

Kan Win, but not this time around, only sadness :D

You will notice that I have not made any comments on any of the members who have been proposed for the same reason.

Why not? I don't really see how the two can be considered equivalent. It is perfectly easy to give your opinion on a banned / current / absent member without discussing moderation. Why shy away from it? Would be interesting to get a mod's perspective on the members suggested, especially from the mod who requested we mention them.

:o
Well. I'm just going to jump on the band wagon and say that because of my realtive noobie status I haven't had the pleasure of dealing with most of the "legends" who have gotten the boot. :bah:

To "Boot Camp" with you then :o "soundman" so that you should learn all about it. :D

Sounds good to me "Crow Boy" what do you think :bah:

The Colonel, :D Kan Win :D

:D

I'm putting a "ditto" on raro's POV.

System is good - any long term members who "have a bad day" & get themselves into hot water get a fair bit of warning to amend their ways if the boot is coming.

Long term members who repeatedly abuse the system get the boot.

Pity really, because some of those members made the board very interesting, however IMO, they only have themselves to blame.

"soundman" beers are most certainly on me with your post 100%. in Kan, as is for "raro" also.

A cat has 9 lives so do our members .....

---------------------------------------

as for

“Actually, it's a good question. Do the warning levels ever subside, or do they remain the same?”

by “mrbojangles

yes I think they do subside, but only for really good contributions to "ThaiVisaDotCom” and not for “good behaviour” as “MrSquigle” mentioned.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

So “Ping” I vote NO to have banned members back.

Sorry, but they posted and got banned. Rules are rules set by the forum owner/s, stick with them, O.K. bend them just a tad, if you wish, but at the end of the day “ThaiVisaDotCom” is free to use, but not to abuse. :o

Yours truly, :D

Kan Win :D

Would be interesting to get a mod's perspective on the members suggested

As an minor Mod 'dantilley' said "Would be interesting to get a mod's perspective".

I did as above, and I still vote NO.

Kan Win :D
