Hey, it just dawned on me that based on the title of another thread here: Facebook is crap.

Chownah

P.S. This is just what I've read and have no direct experience with Facebook.

OI, I said I had run out, pass one round for a guy in need!! Even if it is of the Protestant variety, I am not being choosy at this very moment. :o

Moss

Crap is Parc backwards.

Is this only a coincidence, given that dogs like to to take a crap in the park?

Now you may say the connection is probably just a fluke, but then I will say, dogs can not spell, so have at you!

Tom Yam Goong = Crap Spicy Soup

Oh I lurrrve spicy shrimp soup!

Yes, don't let a P in your soup put you off! I notice quite a few of the more 'economical'-type nosheries tend to spell crab with a P. It only makes it worse when they headline their offerings - eg, PORK; CHICKEN; CRAP.

E: Not forgetting, of course, that 'goong' is prawn, not crab, and rarely crap...

That's true with the 'crap' on menus. Crap meat salad in a posh restaurant made me chuckle. You'd think with the price you pay you'd get good meat!

Oh what a shame! I adore the seafood you can get in Thailand.

Aaaaa Haaaaa yes, oops, I meant that crab is often spelt crap but forgot that goong is prawns - it's double funny tho that crab = poo and crab = crap :o:D :D

That excuse was crap. :o

''Excrement

Both a noun and a verb, meaning excrement and to excrete, and also used an adjective, 'shit' is a true Anglo Saxon word. Curiously, the past participle of 'shit' was once 'shitten', as shown in Chaucer's General Prologue to the Canterbury Tales where he refers to the 'shitten shepherd and clene sheep'. Though we might expect this to have evolved into 'shitted', the more common form of the word in the past tense is in fact 'shat'. '<deleted>' is an alternative form of the word, particularly used in Scotland, Ireland and Northern England.

In the 18th Century Jonathan Swift describes the disillusion of an obsessed voyeur called Strephon in the following lines:

Thus finishing his grand survey,

Disgusted Strephon stole away

Repeating in his amorous fits,

Oh! Celia, Celia, Celia shits!

'Bullshit', an Americanism, is used to mean 'rubbish' or 'nonsense', and from that we get the back-formation 'bull'.

'Crap' is vulgar, but less so than 'shit'. In addition to 'excrement', it can be used to mean 'stuff' or 'things'. Like shit, it may also be used as an adjective: a Brit might describe something as being crap or crappy, in the same way they might describe something slightly worse as shit or shitty. There are two possible origins for the word. The word has links to the Middle English for chaff, and the Middle Dutch 'to tear off' which is more suitable than ever in these days of velvet-soft toilet tissue. A second possible origin is the Victorian plumber named Thomas Crapper who gave the world the syphonic flush: British Standard 7357 (1990) still requires that 'Cisterns shall be supplied with an efficient flushing apparatus of the valveless syphonic type which prevents the waste of water.' Crapper left his name not only on toilet cisterns, but also on manhole covers across southern England. And thus a crapper is a toilet, and not the person who uses it.

Crap is obsolete slang for money, which is presumably the origin of the Craps game. So an American might 'throw a crap', that is they might throw a seven while trying to make a point. These American usages leaves Brits either sniggering or confused or both.

Crap is a noun rather than a verb, and Brits will 'have a crap', except when they are afraid, then they are 'crapping it'.

Confusingly 'crapulence' (from the Latin for being drunk) is sickness caused by heavy drinking. However it often also involves toilets. ''

'Crapping it' an excellent turn of phrase, sounds like something Del Boy Trotter might say.

According to Rogers Profanisaurus a crapper is a crap rapper, crap+rapper = crapper :D

It also says 'wank out a <deleted>' means "to masturbate furiously until a spud is loosened". :o

I know it's crap, but I can't stop laughing about it.

That's a valid excuse! :D

Oh, seonai, another great post on "Excrement"!

Censorship is crap. So are power-trips.

Are you telling us something Kat dear???

Chilli is crap.. for me !!!

I knew you would take it personally. :o

Who says you can't get to know people on an internet forum?

No, I'm not trying to tell YOU anything, Seonai.

You too, a real sweetie. :o

'Bullshit', an Americanism, is used to mean 'rubbish' or 'nonsense', and from that we get the back-formation 'bull'.

Quite. It is perhaps the most useful word in the American language. It is the only "curse" word that I allow my 13yo stepdaughter to use, as it is the mot juste for just so many occasions.
