I still don't understand why there are no atm's at the airport? at the Chiangrai airport they have a couple atm's, why not at Suvarnabhumi?

Did you look for them?

The free airport guide shows 14 ATM’s.

Level 4 main terminal 6

Level 3 main terminal 2

Level 2 main terminal 4

Level 2 Domestic and transfer area 2

there are plenty of ATM's both airside and inside the arrivals hall.

In the terminal only ATN's from Siam Commercial Bank and Thai Military Bank are available, they also both have a full branch in the terminal.

Krung Thai has ATM's in the Novotel and has a full branch at the transportation center

Bangkok Bank has a full branch at the transportation center

There's also a couple of Money Exchange booths. You get a good rate when you change your home country currency into Thai baht. And, when you leave Thailand - change your baht into your home currency in Thailand - rather than wait until you get home.

I have never seen a ATM 'airside' in the departure lounge, something I have looked for in the past and I would like to know where they are.

Yes both Siam Commercial Bank and Thai Military Bank have airside and landside ATM's and manned booths for curency exchange.

I think however that for other transactions like fund transfers or others, only the landside booths will be able to do it
