Got An Extension Today Under The Old Rules

Featured Replies

I have a Work Permit and a 2006 Teacher's license under the old rules, but not a Teachers Professional Certificate, whatever that is.

I have not taken the Thai Culture course, and I do not have any qualifications besides a tefl, and a university degree. I do have experience teaching in Taiwan.

We walked into Suan Plu and I had my first visa extension in about 20 minutes, visa was extended to January 2009. I hope that means I can finish my year without jumping through any other hoops.

Thanks for the positive news skettios.

Thanks for the positive news skettios.

Just spreading the love, since it looks like I get to keep mine for about another year.

Same news with Samat Prakan Immigration. No problems ( according to the OTHER teachers website )

What a surprise, good news and there are three replies, bad news and there are eight pages of moaning.

It's the nature of an Internet forum. Quite a few of us remember each year there's something new to cause a panic but if you compare the real situation now to 8 years ago, things haven't changed that much. There are still many teachers working legally and illegally without degrees. There are still teachers with degrees finding it difficult to negotiate the Thai system. There's never been a crackdowm on teachers working without wps. I've been here since the last century and in those days you worked in language schools. Now there are so many jobs for foreigners available in private and government schools that outside of the popular destinations it's still very easy to find work regardless of your qualifications.

withnail is right: this is good news (twice in one short thread!). It is possible to get through the maze, possible to get around the haze and pollution and actually teach something to some students in some schools in Thailand.

Glad to hear it. I hope it remains this way for a while.
