i,m on my fourth retirement visa extention. always use the 800k in the bank . put it in my thai bankfirst atempt, never used it its still there never any question where it came from. all due again in august. i also whent into scb day before yesterday to open a account, in korat, already have an account in patters for 11yrs. no can do. need w/p . i,m retired how can i get a work permit, says i. its new law to stop money laundering says she. well you missunderstand the rule says i, as i,m not a new customer only a new account. so she phones someone and after a lot of bad feeling on her part i get a new/additional account in korat. by the way it was the bank manager i was talking to. so while i,m waiting for the paper work to dry, she goes into a tirad about bad tempered falangs that bad mouth her staff. now it just happens that i was very relaxed and not angry at all but the stories she told my wife about falangs were very true and very embarrassing as it could have been me she was talking about, but not on this occasion. just cracked me up. back in there today, a new manager and the staff were sweetness itself. blessem. i think this b/m had a axe to grind. certainly didn,t like falangs anyway.

Scb isn't that the bank that is rumoured to be on the edge of going broke.No wonder they quickly open some more accounts.

As you say if this is the same 800,000 that you brought in the first time AND NEVER TOUCHED IT. I am supprised that they did not ask you how you have been living in Thailand.

But then as you say it was in Korat and it seems they are either very laxed or do not care.

Try that in Bangkok and see there reaction (You will not be very relaxed after I am sure of that) Any how lucky you may it long last. Or did I get it wrong and you only deal with the Korat bank there?

No it seems to be so I am told the Thai Bank = Thai Thanakarn and the TMB

No need to spend all the money, but do spend some of it.

Just did my retirement extension at SP yesterday. Last year I only had 500,000 baht in the savings account so required a letter from UK consulate of proof of funds from UK pension (I am ex-service and have a monthly pension), to take it up to the 800k amount.

Late last year I moved some money across from UK and now Thai savings account well over the required amount.

Extension process only took 15 minutes, no questions on "why I have not withdrawn money since last year and what are you living on etc", as I have not withdrawn any funds in 12 months.

The officer did underline the amounts on photocopy of bank pages for some reason.

There was a new form to sign in English saying I understood the requirement to have 800,000 bank in the account 3 months before the next extension application.

After signing I asked the immigration officer to confirm that it was 3 months, "yes she said, every time"

Also asked if I would be renewing extension at Suan Plu next year? "No she replied-new office".

This has now been reported by several TV members. So its Chaeng Watthana from now on for me!

This year, first time I have seen all the staff in the brown police uniforms, medals and rank on display. Very smart!!

What documentation apart the 800k / bank letter proof did you have to provide please P2 and how many copies of it all ( 1 or 2 ) especially the TM7
