Anyone Seen Any Alfa Romeo Spiders In Los

Featured Replies

I still have it...though sitting at my dad's place needing alot of work. Alfa Romeo Spider, which got me through college and law school. Given the thread about CRX's and Escorts, I was wondering if there were any Alfa Spider's in Thailand. I have never seen one, and would love to see one cruise the roads. Any sightings?

Seen a few, but true to Alfa reputation, bodywork was starting to fall apart :D

Nice cars though, although with current prices of 95, and their thirst :o

No probs!

There was a nice trio of them at the Classic Car Expo at Seacon Square early last month, organised by the Classic Car Assoc (Thailand). A brace of boat-tailed Spyders in red, one left, one right hand drive, and a later Kamm tailed model in the same (correct) colour.

Up here in Chiang Mai we have a red Kamm tailed job in lovely condition which may be for sale soon. Best part of 1 mill baht, I'm told.

See the website of Classic Cars of Lanna and www.autonostalgia.info

This was mine. I sold it a couple years ago. There are some pictures during the restaration i made. BTW a car like this is a hobby, so you wouln't care about gasoline consumption, because you drive it anyway only a couple times per year.

Those Spyders (and the coupes) bring back fond memories. One of my 17-year-old buddies had a standard Syder in 1959, and his older brother had a Super Spyder (it did not dawn on me then, how rich they were). Of course, Dustin Hoffman drove one in The Graduate. We did a sports car rally in 1959, and my friend kept telling us, "Follow the Gulie!" on the assumption that a Gulietta knew more than we did....until the Gulie turned onto a road making virgin tracks in the new snow. :o

They were quite classy when new: fully synchronized four-speed (but you had to shift slowly), twin cams, Weber carbs, Pirelli steel-belted radials that gave no hint the traction limit had just been reached, roll-up windows in a ragtop. In fact, my buddy flipped his Alfa when the Pirellis gave way without warning.

Ah, you see the memories are 'fond' for you because you never owned one but got to ride from your buddies...now if you owned one you would also have memories of having to push it in the cold pouring rain on the 101 freeway in San Francisco, or having to wait for parts to be imported from Italy. But then again, on a cool summer evening with the top down, you could forgive it for anything. And in Thailand, at least it won't get cold when you are pushing it! :o

P.S. Stingray, that is a beautiful car! You make me want to get mine up and running again!
