Apologies for rehashing another of my threads, with just a change of model (The New Honda Jazz - What's your verdict?), but having recently just traveled in a new Altis, i felt compelled to ask what others were thinking.

To tell the truth, i was quite excited to be getting the chance to give the Altis closer inspection, as i thought externally the new model looked quite nice, if a little conservative.

I was though very disappointed by the interior. The high waistline that looks good from the outside, has the effect of making this new model feel closed in and small once you get in.

Sitting in the back, the rear bench is too short and the seat just didn't feel that comfortable. The trim on the one i was in (E model) looked and felt cheap.

So has anyone bought one and do you think it's an improvement on the old one?

I/We were one of the first to buy and receive delivery of the new Altis on/about 4 Feb of this year up here in Chiang Mai.

We waited 8 months just for this new version to come out before we purchased the vehicle. We went for the 1.8 top of the line model. The interior is so much nicer than the lower models. We didn't like the three round control knobs on the lower models. Check it out and you will see what I'm talking about.

We love the car. I'm six feet tall, do most/all of the driving, so never sit in the back seat so doesn't bother me as you said. The top of the lines has some nice extra features. We didn't really care of much more it costs because we wanted something (top of the line) in our lives and probably won't be buying another car any time soon.

Good luck in your search.

The new altis has a nice design and doesn't look boring like the oldone. You can't compare with a Jazz. The Jazz you have to compare with a Yaris. Engine is a liitle bit underpowered, but very economical. If you buy the 1.8 liter top model it is a little bit more "picky". I wouldn't buy with the skirt arround, because it gonna hit the speed bumps. New Altis looks like a upmarket car, it isn't ,but it looks like. Problem is similar like all the new cars now. You can't see the end and the front of the car when you parking. But i think this is the best design of all the new cars on the Thai Market now. I'm not sure it's strong? Not much in the front. I wouldn't like to have a accident in it.

I reckon it's ugly, conservative and plump. The Dick Cheney of vehicles. When I saw the first taxi version, I thought someone had made a taxi out of the Vios.
