Same Old Topics?

Featured Replies

We've all done it at some point, had a bit of a moan that there's nothing here that hasn't been done before and all the topics are generic versions of each other.

Well here's a story that is original and has great potential for debate, but which is in danger of slipping out of sight.

Why? I don't know perhaps the implications of it are taking time to sink in, perhaps it's just too incredible to warrant serious debate.

I think it's a brilliant idea, please check it out.

I think its a ludicrous idea, watching rich people waste their money on ill conceived development projects that are nothing more than reflections of their own ego gets dull after a while

I don't think it's a ludicrous idea, I think it's rather astute. If it wasn't Thaksin but another group of businessmen you may think it wise.

I don't imagine it to be a mega city to rival PP or BKK, but as a regional financial and transport hub the foundations are there to build on.

However I do agree with you when you say in the thread:

Sounds like a lot of hot air to me, or the ramblings of a man robbed of his senses by his own wealth.

It could well be his megalomania getting the better of him and the idea could fail because of over ambition.

Very interesting thread, Robski. 'Ramblings of a man robbed of his senses...'? Perhaps - perhaps not.

Its certainly very interesting but I maintain that its ill conceived. If its astute its probably only for political reasons.

Perhaps a port/salvage/repair/ship yard will work but a financial center? In Cambodia? Why?

The only way that could possibly have any hope whatsoever is to have major government support, to make it a tax shelter like the Channel Islands or the Cayman Islands. But why would they do that?

There is no other reason to go to there, and just being cheap doesn't cut it. There is far more to this than meets the eye.

Usual Thaksin hot air, anything for publicity and to keep his name and mug in the news. Plus it's a jibe at his opponents and detractors "I'm still here boys".

Khun Mr Eang Sophalleth is not exactly a technically minded bloke is he?

A port to be used for fixing broken ships would also be included, he said.

they had two (?) weeks ago in the bkk post Friday supplement a (for Thai standards) strong satire on that subject. Had a good laugh!

As half-baked this idea might look like at first sight, they have the cash to follow through and starting with a casino, cash flow is guaranteed for more to come.
