I will be retiring to Chiang Mai soon and will need an automatic van or mpv as I am a left leg amputee. Scooters in Perth are even more dangerous than there :o .

As I need an electric wheelchair ( I know they are of limited use there ) a van is esential. It must also be automatic.

I have checked the websites and know most of what is available and will probably be toyota or MU-7.

I notice there are few comments about vans on the forum. Are there any more dificulties for foreigners for them than for cars.

Also I see there are waiting lists can anyone tell me how long .

If anyone has any knowledge of hoists or ramps there let me know please.

Regards

Harry

harry, I stand correcting but I think most of the light trucks ,vans, Suv,s sold in the Asia/Pacific area are manufactured in Thailand so they are identical with whats available in Oz.

I personally have not seen a wheelchair lift fitted here ,but I guess it would be feasible to import one from Oz after you make your choice of vehicle.

It seems a bit of overkill to buy an MU-7 and then have to remove the rear set of seats to give room for your wheelchair, plus being 4wd it is substantially higher ,hence harder for you to access the drivers seat .

For substantially less cash , a Toyota 4door light truck (ute) with a lockable canopy might be worth a thought. A top of the line 4 door 2wd ute has all the bells and whistles but has the benefit of being lower to the ground .

I am only offering alternatives here as I dont know the extent of your disability or what your plans for your retirement are (maybe you want a 4wd to do a bit of bush-bashing. :o

Hi Harry,

I am confined to a wheelchair but i drive a fortuner no problem and i am thinking of changing it to aN M7.

I have made some good contacts here and back in the UK so if you tell me what length of ramps and what you want them for I might be able to help, a good site that i use many times is www.sportaid.com they are in USA but can help with most things, but if you want hand controls give me a shout as i am very good friends with a company in the UK and you can even try my controls in BKK.

I have seen here 2 both Daihatsu, one a 2007 S200 the other a Move, both have ramps at the back, on the Hijet the wheelchair goes straight in to become the drivers seat

Both users are Thai, but have no idea where they got the conversion done
