I LOVE sailing.. Played around in all kinds of stuff from little drop keel fibreglass bathtubs to some 42 ft liveaboards.. started to do my RYA certifications back in Europe and have 'competant crew' and was working to 'day skipper' but high workload meant I did not manage to keep it going..

When I first came here I was sure I would get under sail again but somehow I have always ballsed it up. I remember the marina right at the north of the island used to have 'open sundays' where for a tiny fee (like 500 baht per day) you turned up and they just put 4 - 6 people on thier own boats.. Great for novice fun and supervised etc..

I was chatting with a buddy last night and he was into the idea of both of us (and our GF's) doing a day sail and if the girls dug it maybee even getting even more into it and doing a 2 day one night liveaboard.. Thing is I have no idea about costs of doing any of this ?? I would imagine going from the boat lagoon etc would be high prices for a specific charter... Seems such a waste to be in such a good sailing destination and not do it.

Anyone have any contacts or know where to ask ?? anyone have some ballpark figures ?? Anyone also into having some fun on the water on a cost share lets get together and see if we get on...

Also if anyone reading this has a boat here I would happily make myself available on any kind of work share for sail basis, can do website stuff and PC assistance.. Lots of options.. Especially as racing season is approaching.

Have time.. want to get more deck experience.

Not sure about prices but i went sailing around the andaman sea with 4 other guys in a 47 footer.

They chartered it bareback from Sunsail in the lagoon marina.

Look at their website, they have all details, prices and availability.

Thanks.. I figured they would be expensive as ###### but a 5 day day skipper course is £350 GBP.. To me thats reasonable as it training as well as messing around..

Still offering for anyone that needs crew for the coming season..

I like the square rigger but would prefer to 'play' on a smaller sloop..

I actually was involved with the Tall ships race when I was only abut 11 or so and it came to Southhampton.. Went on a Barquentine (Brigantine ?? 3 mast Sq rigged front mast 2 sloop style for the rears) and after getting to Portugal they were going across the Atlantic to work the caribean and the american market..

They offered me a job to live aboard as a cabin boy as the crew (mostly swedish female belive it or not) had kinda adopted me, but my folks (esp my mum) were not to keen on me running away to sea permantly (My old man ran away to sea at 14 on the capetown banana boats) and not following school through.. I was seriously considering ignoreing thier requests to go back to UK and claiming permission and jumping ship (I was a headstrong kid and my folks used to leave me for months at a time by the time I was 14)...

I have often wondered what would have happened if I have tried that..
